Dallas Opera Announces Season Of 'Tragic Obsessions'

The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce the five darkly dazzling operas that comprise the company's 2011-12 season in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. With opening night on Friday, October 21, 2011, the 55th international season - "Tragic Obsessions" - will showcase compelling works by Donizetti, Janacek, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and will include an outstanding Dallas opera-in-concert, important debuts and some of the company's most renowned productions. Each opera will feature the superbly talented Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Opera Chorus and will be performed in its original language, with English translations projected above the stage at every performance. Exclusive subscriber extras include "A Cabaret Evening with Patricia Racette" and a fun-filled family concert starring soprano Ava Pine and the Dallas Opera Orchestra.

The 2011 Season of The Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC will feature many firsts including award winning actor and Saratoga Springs native David Hyde Pierce joining us to narrate the orchestra's performance of Britten's classic, A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, an evening with Grammy winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis, and a full screening of classic film Casablanca with a live orchestral performance of the film's score.

Beginning with the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2010/11 season, four conductors will participate in the Dudamel Fellowship Program. Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, created the Dudamel Fellowship Program (in 2009)to provide a unique opportunity for promising young conductors from around the world to develop their craft and enrich their musical experience through personal mentorship and participation in the LA Phil's orchestral, education and community programs.

Five local choreographers will each create a new dance work for Diversionary Theatre's special event, Dance/Theatre 2011, with four performances, January 27-29, 2011. The project was conceived by Peter G. Kalivas of The PGK Project in conjunction with Diversionary's Executive & Artistic Director Dan Kirsch. This is the third edition of the project. Dance/Theatre merges theatre and dance audiences while presenting universal stories through dance inspired by productions previously staged by Diversionary. 'Diversionary has a long history of creating new work, and this project is a great way to connect to the dance community,' said Kirsch. 'We're always excited about the imagination the choreographers bring to interpreting a stage work.'
