Pacific Symphony Announces 2016-17 Events - Renee Fleming, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, World Premieres and More!

Music Director Carl St.Clair and Pacific Symphony today unveil the 2016-17 Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom Family Foundation Classical and Sunday Casual Connections series and special events. This season celebrates the orchestra's 38th season and its 10th year in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Inaugurated by the Symphony in September 2006, this magnificent venue—with its exceptional acoustics and beautiful architecture—changed the world of symphonic music forever in Orange County. Both the orchestra and its audiences suddenly felt the ceiling to their musical opportunities open up to limitless possibilities. The trajectory of the orchestra sped up, allowing for broader choices in repertoire, greater ensemble excellence and immersive audience experiences—culminating, 10 years later, in this momentous season.

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced the repertory and artist roster for the company's 2016/17 season. Created by Mr. Domingo in collaboration with Music Director James Conlon and President and CEO Christopher Koelsch, the season will include six mainstage productions and a classic musical presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. A total of 40 performances will take place in that venue, while an additional 13 performances will be presented elsewhere through the company's Off Grand initiative.

Milwaukee Symphony Performs Two 'Fantastical' Fairy Tales This Weekend

MILWAUKEE, WIS. 01/06/2016– The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor Christopher Seaman, presents two performances of Stravinsky's musical masterpiece The Firebird this weekend, January 22 and January 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Paired with The Firebird is Dukas's “dance poem in one scene”, La Peri. Also programmed are Elgar's overture In the South (Alassio) and Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D minor as performed by Karen Gomyo. Ms. Gomyo has been hailed as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance, and intensity,” by the Chicago Tribune.

Baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky returns to Carnegie Hall in a recital with pianist Ivari Ilja on Wednesday, February 17 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, performing works by Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mahler, and Richard Strauss. The concert marks more than 25 years since Mr. Hvorostovsky's Carnegie Hall debut 1990; he last performed at the Hall with Mr. Ilja in 2013.

Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio Recruits Seven New Artists

Toronto –   The Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Canada's premier training program for young opera professionals, welcomes seven outstanding new artists for the 2016/2017 season: sopranos Danika Lorènand Samantha Pickett, mezzo-sopranos Emily D'Angelo, Lauren Eberwein and Megan Quick, baritone Bruno Roy, and pianist Stéphane Mayer. The seven artists join the Ensemble Studio in August 2016 and become part of an illustrious program that, since its inception in 1980, has launched the careers of over 215 Canadian singers, opera coaches, mainstage directors and conductors.

The Cleveland Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall for the first time since 2012 with two concerts this winter. On Sunday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m., Music Director Franz Welser-Most leads the orchestra and soprano Barbara Hannigan in the New York premiere of Hans Abrahamsen's let me tell you. The work, recently awarded the 2016 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition, features texts from writer and critic Paul Griffiths's novella of the same name, in which the character of Ophelia delivers a first-person account of her life using only the words Shakespeare wrote for her in Hamlet. Also on the program is Shostakovich's monumental Symphony No. 4 in C Minor, Op. 43.

December 15, 2015 – Richmond, Virginia Join the Richmond Symphony, Music Director Steven Smith, and members from the Virginia Opera Herndon Foundation Emerging Artists Program for a special concert in the style of a Viennese New Year on Saturday, January 9 at 8pm and Sunday, January 10 at 3pm. A New Year in Vienna is a celebration filled with selected works including waltzes, polkas, and arias by Johann Strauss Jr., Franz Lehár, and Richard Strauss. This concert is part of the Altria Masterworks series and will be held at Richmond CenterStage's Carpenter Theatre.
