Palace Wreckers, Inc. Announce Opening Of New Comedy At Berkeley City Club

Central Works 2018 season of new plays leaps into the spring with the world premiere of Palace Wreckers, Inc, written and directed by Gary Graves, opening with a press night on Saturday, May 12, and running through June 10  (previews May 10 & 11) in architect Julia Morgan's historic Berkeley City Club. This Central Works Method play is a "revenge comedy" - based on a Greek tragedy, turned into a contemporary comedy. The Central Works Method brings together writer, actors and director at the very outset of the playwriting process. In a supportive workshop environment, group research and collective brainstorming contribute to the entire development of the script.

The Central Works Premiere of Strange Ladies by Susan Sobeloff has extended and must close Sunday Nov 19 following the 5pm performance (originally scheduled to close Nov. 12). Strange Ladies received a visceral response from audiences and media alike at its premiere, and has experienced constant sold out performances. Described as a daring historical recreation... Strange Ladies is a call to ...mobilize for the complete liberation for all women in the U.S., now...making us want to stand up and join in, and The play resonates all too well our current political situation... As stated in the play, Those in power are not inclined to share.

The Central Works 2017 season concludes this Fall with Strange Ladies by Susan Sobeloff opening with a press night on Saturday October 14 running through November 12 (previews Oct 12 & 13) at the renowned Berkeley City Club. Strange Ladies is a Central Works Method Musical inspired by the Suffrage movement. The production is told with music of the period under the musical direction of Milissa Carey. 1917: a diverse group of Suffragists are fighting to gain the vote for women as the US entered World War I. Torn between loyalty to their political cause and loyalty to the war effort, these women each struggle to make difficult choices in a time of tremendous social upheaval. The personal pits each against the political in Strange Ladies.

THE WINTER'S TALE From African-American Shakespeare Company Comes to The Taube Atrium This June

The African-American Shakespeare Company finishes off its 2016/17 season with The Winter's Tale, one of the few Shakespeare plays that has gone unproduced over its 22 years of making theater in San Francisco. The company's Artistic Director, L. Peter Callender, will direct this production. While he has appeared in the play as an actor four times over his career, this is his first time directing it. 'Our re-imagined adaptation will focus on the telling of the story through the eyes of the young Prince, Mamillius. My hope is empower young people and to explore what happens when a loving family suddenly becomes dysfunctional.'

LOVE SICK Announces Additional Performances in Mountain View

Due to popular demand, Berkeley's Jewish Circle Theatre, in association with John Gertz Productions, announced the extension of Love Sick, a passionate new musical play based on the ancient Hebrew text, 'The Song of Songs,' at SecondStage at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are now on sale through Sunday, March 19, 2017. The production, which the San Francisco Chronicle gives its 'Highest Rating' and calls 'Extraordinary,' is helmed by internationally-acclaimed director Christopher Renshaw (Broadway: The King and I [Best Revival Tony Award, 1996], Taboo; West End We Will Rock You, Zorro: The Musical), the production features the Bay Area's Ofra Daniel in this original story of one woman's journey through a relentless and fervent love affair-and her gradual descent into madness.
