Bonnie Brooks Announces Departure from Dance Center

Bonnie Brooks, Presenting Series Director and Lead Curator for the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago and Columbia College Chicago Dance Department Associate Professor, has announced her departure, effective May 31, 2017.

Raja Feather Kelly's Newest Warhol-Inspired Work Headed to LUMBERYARD Festival

LUMBERYARD Contemporary Performing Arts will present the feath3r theory in: Another f**king Warhol Production, or Who's Afraid of Andy Warhol?, a new work from Raja Feather Kelly and his company the feath3r theory, June 22-24 at The Kitchen as part of the second annual LUMBERYARD in the City festival.

Gibney Dance Company Performs Work by Joanna Kotze and Reggie Wilson, 5/4-6

Gibney Dance Company is set to perform a newly commissioned work by Joanna Kotze and re-imagined works by Reggie Wilson at Lower Manhattan's Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center May 4–6. The program marks the second annual edition of GRIT: Gibney Repertory Initiative for Tomorrow, created to simultaneously commission new works from and re-imagine signature works by contemporary dance artists.

Lumberyard Sets 2017 NYC Season at The Kitchen

Lumberyard Contemporary Performing Arts (formerly American Dance Institute) is pleased to announce its 2017 season at The Kitchen, which will comprise the premieres of five new contemporary performance works.

Dance Now's Fall 2016 DANCE-MOPOLITAN Series Presents Chelsea & Magda, Bryan Strimpel and Shaina Branfman

Commissioned and produced by DANCE NOW, National Intimacy Month is a collaboration between performance duo Chelsea and Magda, choreographer/dancers Bryan Strimpel and Shaina Branfman of B.S. Movement, and choreographer Raja Feather Kelly and his troupe, the feath3r theory. Combining choreography, improvisation, text, live podcasting, and sketch comedy, the work explores the role of intimacy in the creative process and in performance. The cute and the aggressive, the familiar and unknown, the popular and the underrated-all come into play in dynamic, surprising, and humorous ways, complete with commercial breaks and apple pie.

Danspace Project's Platform 2016: LOST & FOUND to Feature Over 80 Artists

Since their inception in 2009, the Platform series, Danspace Project's signature curatorial initiative, has 'given dance presentation a makeover.' (The New York Times). Conceived by Danspace Project Executive Director and Chief Curator Judy Hussie-Taylor as exhibitions that unfold over time, Platforms are multi-week series of performances and events, organized by guest curators, that act as deep inquiries into artistic practice and concerns. Ten Platforms have been held to date, each accompanied by a print catalogue.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Star Robert Fairchild Among 2015 Bessie Award Nominees; Full List!

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2014-15 season at its annual press conference. The 37 nominees were selected by the Bessies Selection Committee, an independent committee of 39 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design. The list of nominations follows. 

hcl and CDF Team for 'Cultural Conversations' on Dance & Dramaturgy Today

High Concept Labs (hcl) and Chicago Dancemakers Forum (CDF) partner on a public event about dramaturgy and contemporary dancemaking. CDF and hcl invite creators, dramaturges, performers, students, and audience members, to engage in dialogue about theory and practice of dramaturgy, the choreographic process and the dancing body.

Last week the National YoungArts Foundation took over Manhattan offering approximately 120 aspiring artists (actors, dancers, designers, cinematagraphers, musicians, photographers, singers, visual artists and writers, all ages 15 - 18) the life changing opportunity to participate in more than 50 master classes, as well as studio visits, workshops and tours.
