Performances begin today for the MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) New York premiere production of Paul Downs Colaizzo's Really Really, directed by David Cromer (the Obie Award and Lucille Lortel Award-winning director of hits Our Town, Adding Machine and Tribes). The production, which marks Colaizzo's New York playwriting debut, plays at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) through March 10, 2013. An official opening is set for Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. As announced on January 29th, the world premiere of Really Really, which opened in February 2012 at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre in D.C., has been nominated for 'The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical' at this year's Helen Hayes Awards. As previously noted, MCC's New York premiere of Really Really marks a brand new production of the play directed by Cromer.

All across the greater Houston area, public schools and post-secondary college and universities are back in session. Students are hopefully becoming enlightened through quality education. However, to kick off their annual Get Talking Series, Stages Repertory Theatre is giving audiences something to talk about with their production of David Davalos' WITTENBERG. Other entries into this year's trilogy include upcoming productions of Julia Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE and Rebecca Gilman's DOLLHOUSE.

Magic Theatre is thrilled to welcome back renowned playwright Octavio Solis for the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Se Llama Cristina, directed by Producing Artistic Director Loretta Greco and running tonight, January 23 - February 17.

Associate Artistic Director Josh Morrison will direct the regional premiere of David Davalos' Wittenberg, a play set in 1517 in the university town that was home to the legendary Dr. Faustus, Martin Luther, and Shakespeare's fictional tragic-hero Hamlet. Supposing the characters are there at the same moment in time, Davalos creates a playground on which Faustus and Luther volley for influence on young (undecided major) undergrad Hamlet.

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) continues the Ignite! Festival of New Plays. Taking place in March, the festival will include commissions of nationally recognized playwrights, culminating with three public readings including Soups, Stews, and Casseroles by Rebecca Gilman and directed by Seth Gordon; Tamarack House by Michael Dowling and directed by Anders Cato; and Love in the Time of Cholera by Caridad Svich (based on the novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) and directed by Jose Zayas. The festival productions will take place in the Sally S. Levy Opera Center, located at 210 Hazel Avenue, directly behind the Loretto-Hilton Center.

Firehouse Theater presents 'Boy Gets Girl' running January 11 through February 9 at the John Hand Theater/Colorado Free University, 7653 East First Place, Denver, CO. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, January 20 at 6:30 p.m; Monday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 26 at 2p.m.

After a sold-out world premiere production last summer, Larry Larson and Eddie Levi Lee's The Waffle Palace: Smothered, Covered and Scattered 24/7/365 returns to Horizon Theatre for an open run starting tonight, January 11, 2013. ArtsATL praised the show as "an easy-to-eat mixture of the funny, familiar, corny, nostalgic, and odd," perfect for theatre-goers and Waffle House regulars alike.

There is no denying that 2012 was a great year for theatre in Houston. Excellent productions were housed all over the city. And with the way things are shaping up, it appears that 2013 will be another fabulous year for theatre in the city. As I glance at the calendar for 2013, I find that there are many productions that I am already looking forward to. Utilizing the greatest restraint I could muster and considerable effort, I offer to you my top 5 most anticipated shows of 2013 in the order that they open...

Raven Theatre's 30th season continues with Rebecca Gilman's dark drama, Boy Gets Girl. MCC Theater has announced that MCC Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute will direct the world premiere of his new play, Reasons to Be Happy, as part of its 2012-13 Season. Performances of Reasons to Be Happy begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on May 16, 2013 and continue through June 23, 2013. An official opening is set for June 2, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Additional information, including complete casting, will be announced shortly.

Goodman Theatre announces Jimmy McDermott, former associate artistic director at Writers' Theatre, as the recipient of the 2012/2013 Season Michael Maggio Directing Fellow for Chicago-based directors. As a fellow, McDermott will receive a stipend and the opportunity to assist on a Goodman production-from early research and design through the casting and rehearsal process to the opening-and become involved in the Goodman's artistic team. Previous Maggio Fellows include Lynn Ann Bernatowicz (2002/2003), Mignon McPherson Nance (2003/2004), Ann Filmer (2005/2006), Dado (2006/2007), Anthony Moseley (2007/2008), Joanie Schultz (2009/2010) and Anna Bahow (2011/2012).
