? Lookingglass Theatre Company announces the election of its newest Artistic Director, Ensemble Member Heidi Stillman. Stillman has served as Artistic Director of New Work since 2004 and replaces current Artistic Director, Ensemble Member Andrew White. White, who has held the post since 2010, will serve as the company's first Connectivity and Engagement Director. Ensemble Member Philip R. Smith remains on the artistic leadership team in his role as Producing Director. In this spirit of ensemble and collaboration, Lookingglass Ensemble members routinely vote on the position of artistic director every three years. Elections are then ratified by the Lookingglass Board of Directors, and this artistic transition is effective immediately.

Lookingglass Theatre Company announces casting for the remainder of its 2015-2016 season, which includes Federico Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding, directed by Ensemble Member Daniel Ostling, and the World Premiere of Thaddeus and Slocum: A Vaudeville Adventure, written by Ensemble member Kevin Douglas and co-directed by Ensemble Member J. Nicole Brooks and Krissy Vanderwarker. Blood Wedding runs March 2 - April 24, 2016 with tickets on sale to the general public starting January 13, 2016. Thaddeus and Slocum runs June 1 - August 7, 2016 with tickets on sale to the general public starting April 6, 2016. Route 66 Theatre Company will present the Chicago premiere of No Wake by William Donnelly, directed by Kimberly Senior, and the world premiere of Quiver by Jenni Lamb, directed by Frances Limoncelli, during its seventh year as a company and third year as a resident company at Greenhouse Theater Center. The early Greek theaters were temples. The purpose of theater was to give people a place in which to worship their gods. It was believed that by going to the theater, one could have direct communication with the gods. Well, almost; it was believed that spiritual information came down from the gods through the actors, who then gave this information to the audience. The audience then gave their collective response, which then was sent back, again through the actors, up to the gods. It was this back-and-forth communication of ideas, feelings, and energy between us and the Great Beyond that gave birth to what we now refer to as 'theater'.

American Theatre of Actors presents North To Maine: A Journey on the Appalachian Trail, a new original play written by Brenton Lengel about a thru-hiker's experience on the legendary trail. Eric Parness directs a cast of five including Samantha Rivers Cole, Tim Dowd, Michael Raymond Fox, Adam La Faci, and Winston Shaw. North To Maine is being staged at The Beckmann Theatre at American Theatre of Actors (ATA), 314 West 54th Street (bet. 8th & 9th Avenues) in NYC for 17 performances from today, July 16-August 3, 2014.
