Pitch Me This Productions has done a great job bringing THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW to life for this year's annual dose of absolute pleasure and sins of the flesh. The circus idea is fun, even if it doesn't truly make a ton of thematic sense with the Gothic material.

INTO THE WOODS is an ambitious undertaking for a community theater. The music is complex and the costumes and set are anything but minimalistic. HFAC's ambition is realized through this production directed by Sam Brown, and you can clearly see his heart and soul in a musical that rivals some professional productions around town.

SRO (Standing Room Only) Productions is producing AMERICAN IDIOT at Obisidian Theater in Houston, TX this fall. If you are socially conscious or have some type of social media account, you are well aware of the social injustices that seem to flood the timelines. In this past year, we have witnessed young black men assassinated at the hands of police officers as well as a massacre in Charleston, South Carolina where a deranged racist killed nine parishioners at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Hashtags such as #Handsupdontshoot and #BlackLivesMatter have become the popular catch phrases in the juggernaut of social media. I know you are asking, 'What in the hell does this have to do with ASSASSINS the musical?' This show addresses so much more than the psychopathic motives of the nine assassins; it makes one question the gun control laws of then and now. Going into the theatre, I was excited to see a musical that I love and know very well, but my thoughts changed immediately at curtain call.

For over four decades,Stephen Schwartz's musical career has brought to life hit musicals such as Godspell, The Baker's Wife and Wicked, as well as music in some of our favorite films such as Pocahontas, The Prince of Egypt and Enchanted. In honor and celebration of this brilliant composer, DEFY GRAVITY was conceived by Michael J. Bobbitt with musical arrangement by John Cornelius ll. Together, they have created a musical revue comprised of 28 songs which takes the audience on a journey through many of Schwartz's classics in the realm of musicals and film.

The show takes audiences back to 1975 to celebrate the 10 Year Reunion of Memorial High School's Class of 1965. As relationships change shape and truths are laid bare, the energetic cast rocks the audience with tuneful favorites that fit nicely into the light-hearted and romantic plot of the musical.

Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's wildly popular hit musical NEXT TO NORMAL is back on Houston stages, and audiences are packing the house. Last seen in the summer of 2012 at Stages Repertory Theatre, the almost entirely sung through musical is being produced by Standing Room Only Productions at Obsidian Art Space and covers hard hitting social issues centered around bipolar disorder, depression, and the effect these mental illnesses have on familial bonds.

As I stare down the barrel of my own 10-year anniversary from graduating high school, I found more than one of the characters in Standing Room Only Production's presentation of local award-winning playwright Michael Weem's FEELING ALRIGHT! honestly relevant and applicable to me and my life. And I'm certain I was not alone. Whether you're just out of high school or 50 years out of high school, the individual pressures and dilemmas of self-discovery of at least one of the characters will ring with the distinct air of truth for you.

Stuart Landon is back with COURT STREET CABARET. The production features Landon, Alexis Dow Campbell and Allison Graham and will play March 16 & 17 at 8pm at the intimate Angino Family Theatre.
