Starting on January 22nd is David Ives' Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Venus in Fur, a comedy about sexual power, power plays, and the power of Love - the Goddess of Love, that is. Cohen's funny and frightening story was the basis for an acclaimed 2009 memoir that she has now adapted for the stage. AND, LATELY... is a piece d'occasion, a backstage brainstorm about running a theater and checking in with the rest of the world that uses music, movement and text to deliver the story. This is a limited run, with performances May 8th through 19th only.
The Kitchen Theatre Company celebrated Earth Day 2013 with a press conference to announce that the theater has been awarded LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Over forty people attended the 8:30 AM celebration, which began with a welcome from Artistic Director Rachel Lampert and Managing Director Stephen Nunley. Lampert described the thinking behind the push for LEED certification: "Sustainability was the primary motivation for the Kitchen Theatre Company to find a new home, so LEED certification and all the environmental plusses of building toward that goal went hand in hand with our hopes and dreams for the future."
