For the second summer in a row, Pseudonym Productions has given Central Florida something special; not to mention something surprising, something a little bit sexy, and something altogether sinister. Their new interactive, immersive theatre piece, which they refer to as a 'real-life video game,' blends mythology and science fiction into a story that has traces of dystopian corporate espionage with hints of Shakespearean History plays thrown in.
BroadwayWorld Orlando has exclusively learned that Central Florida's extremely popular interactive, immersive theatrical experience, WHEN SHADOWS FALL, is about to undergo a number of major changes, all geared at expanding the world of 'Penumbra,' the fictional society in which their story is set.
For most people, it is extremely difficult to watch another person struggle, especially when it comes to doing the most mundane of tasks. That could be why it is so challenging to watch Beth Marshall Presents and the Garden Theatre's jarring production of THE WHALE, directed by Rob Winn Anderson and running through April 3rd in Winter Garden. The play, by award-winning writer Samuel D. Hunter, tells the story of morbidly obese shut-in Charlie, and his struggles to regain control of what is left of his life.
The Garden Theatre is proud to present Beth Marshall Presents' production of The Whale showing March 18 - April 3, 2016. The Whale, a Central Florida regional premiere, is sponsored by Insight Credit Union.
There is simply no overstating how fortunate Central Florida theatre fans are to have quality collegiate theatre programs in the area. While ticket sales are obviously still important for Theatre UCF and the Annie Russell Theatre at Rollins College, ultimately, their mission is not to produce the most commercially viable theatrical season in town; their goal is to give their talented students opportunities to challenge themselves, to learn about all aspects of their chosen profession, and to become the most well-rounded theatre artists that they can. And, because of this fact, Orlando is regularly blessed with brilliant productions like EXPECTING ISABEL, running at Rollins through Saturday, February 20th, that they might not otherwise be privileged to see.
The Annie Russell Theatre at Rollins College continues its 83rd season with Expecting Isabel, a contemporary comedy about a middle-aged couple's journey to parenthood. Miranda and Nick serve as candid narrators, chronicling their odyssey from the bedroom, to infertility clinics, to adoption agencies. We encounter a host of quirky characters as their very private struggle becomes public.

One of the reasons that I especially enjoy going to quality collegiate theatre is that, while these programs want to have as many people in the audience as possible, for obvious exposure and financial reasons, they are far more focused on presenting interesting and challenging works that prepare their students for whatever artistic careers they eventually pursue. Rollins College's production of MACHINAL, running through February 21st, will not be for everyone, but thankfully, director and Department Chair Dr. David Charles has larger goals in mind for this program.
The Annie Russell Theatre continues its 82nd season with Machinal, based on the real life trial of murderess Ruth Snyder. The production, directed by Dr. David Charles, is a unique style for the Rollins Department of Theatre and Dance, and for the Central Florida area.
