Gustav Gauntlett's HOOPS Takes Top Honor at Downtown Urban Theater Festival

Hoops, written by Brooklyn-based Gustav Gauntlett, won BEST PLAY at the 12th Annual Season of the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF). The festival ran from April 2-19, 2014 at HERE Mainstage in SoHo, NYC and featured 17 plays written by some of America's best emerging writers and theatrical visionaries from California, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as an international dance theater work from Romania.

ANOTHER KIND OF COURAGE, Celebration of Amiri Baraka, Brick City Voices & More Set for 2014 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, 10/23-26

Martin Farawell, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation's Poetry Director and Director of the Dodge Poetry Festival, has announced the roster of poets and other performers who will be participating in the 15th biennial Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, October 23-26, 2014. For the third time the Festival will be held at its new home, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) as well as other venues in Newark's Downtown Arts District, all within easy walking distance of NJPAC.

Renowned Choral Conductor Paul Salamunovich Dies at 86

Acclaimed Grammy-nominated choral conductor and Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) Music Director Emeritus Paul Salamunovich, whose artistry touched millions of people around the world through recordings, live performances, college and university clinics, and the numerous film scores on which he conducted and sang, has died at age 86 from multiple complications due to West Nile virus.

Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF), now heading into its 12th season, welcomes springtime in NYC with three weeks of new theatre at HERE's Mainstage, April 2 to 19, 2014. Seventeen of America's best emerging writers and theatrical visionaries will share their stories that interpret our history and our times through live performances fusing theatre, dance, music, media and visual arts. A special addition to this year's festival will be the U.S. premiere of Two of Us, DUTF's international selection from Romania.

MATA FESTIVAL 2014 to Feature 34 Composers Under 40 from 17 Countries, 4/14-21

MATA Festival turns sixteen with its largest and most ambitious installment yet: seven days of musical discovery, Monday, April 14 to Monday, April 21. Curated by Outgoing Artistic Director Yotam Haber, MATA Festival 2014 includes works by 34 composers from seventeen countries, all under 40 when they applied. They were chosen from more than 650 applicants, representing 64 countries.

LA Master Chorale Sets 2014-15 Season at Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) - heralded around the globe for its unparalleled artistry and wide ranging repertoire - continues expanding and transforming the spectrum of choral music with two world premieres while also presenting Renaissance gems, a cappella masterpieces, contemporary classics and seminal large-scale works during the 2014-15 Season, its 51st, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Acclaimed Kiki & David Gindler Music Director Grant Gershon, who marks his 14th season at the choir's helm, conducts 10 programs, 4 of which are repeated, for a total of 14 performances at Disney Hall. The Grammy®-nominated Chorale displays its skills as both a virtuosic symphonic chorus and a masterful a cappella tour de force with a season of carefully curated repertoire, featuring works by some 20 composers, nearly half of whom are active today, among them Swan Family Composer in Residence Shawn Kirchner, Tan Dun, Arvo Part, Eric Whitacre, Nack-Kum Paik, Richard Einhorn, Ariel Quintana, Jan Sandstrom and Morten Lauridsen.

IN LOVE AND WARCRAFT Wins 2014 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary season, the Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition continues to spotlight the best emerging playwrights with a full production for the competition winner and staged readings for four competition finalists. IN LOVE AND WARCRAFT, the 10th competition winner, will premiere on the Hertz Stage January 31 - February 23, 2014. Opening night is February 5, 2014. IN LOVE AND WARCRAFT is written by Madhuri Shekar, a recent graduate of the MFA program at the University of South California, and will be directed by Laura Kepley, Artistic Director of the Cleveland Play House.

Downtown Urban Theater Festival Announces 2014 Season Finalists

In spring 2014, the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) will return for a much-anticipated 12th annual season and from 140 submissions, DUTF has narrowed it down to 29 finalists. The decisions were extremely difficult due to the amazing plays received from gifted emerging writers who hail from across the U.S. and internationally from Canada, Egypt, Iran, Israel, United Kingdom, Rio de Janeiro and Romania.
