Rehearsals have begun for Center Theatre Group's production of Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Quiara Alegr a Hudes. Directed by Shishir Kurup, the production will begin previews January 27, open February 3 and continue through February 25, 2018, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Center Theatre Group has announced the cast for Water by the Spoonful by Quiara Alegr a Hudes. The 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be presented at the Mark Taper Forum January 31 through March 11, 2018. Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the opening of Water by the Spoonful is set for February 11.

WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director, Joanie Schultz, today announced casting and creative team details for the remainder of the 2017-2018 Main Stage Season, which includes the Regional Premiere of Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue by Quiara Alegr a Hudes, Bread, a World Premiere by Regina Taylor, The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown, and the Regional Premiere of Hand to God by Robert Askins. The directors for the remainder of the Season include David Lozano, Leah C. Gardiner, Kelsey Leigh Ervi, and Joanie Schultz.

Geva Theatre Center's production of In the Heights, with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegr a Hudes, conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by Melissa Rain Anderson was a huge hit for the 45-year old, not-for-profit theatre. Over 20,000 people attended the production, crafted in Rochester, for Rochester over a five-week period with 40 performances.

It doesn't happen often, but, fair or not, there's always a little extra pressure put on a play when it comes to New York after having already won the Pulitzer Prize.  Quiara Alegría Hudes, a Pulitzer finalist for both Elliot, a Soldier's Fugue and her co-authorship of In The Heights, was awarded top honors last year for Water By The Spoonful, which was commissioned by Hartford Stage, where it premiered in 2011.  Shortly after, the recently-opened Off-Broadway mounting was placed on Second Stage's schedule.

Today in 2011, In the Heights closed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 1184 performances. In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. The story explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, winning four: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes, who will be coming to Cleveland Play House for a week-long residency as part of New Ground Theatre Festival, has just been awarded the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Water By the Spoonful. The Pulitzer is given "for a distinguished play by an American author, preferably original in its source and dealing with American life," and includes a prize of $10,000.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) today announced the upcoming publication of Quiara Alegria Hudes's Water by the Spoonful, the 2012 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play will be available from TCG Books on August 1, and will be quickly followed up with the release of Hudes's Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue on August 15. These are the second and first plays, respectively, of a trilogy by the award-winning playwright; the third installment, The Happiest Song Plays Last, will receive its world premiere in spring 2013 at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and will be published by TCG later that year.

Just announced is word that Quiara Alegría Hudes's WATER BY THE SPOONFUL is this year's recipient of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play premiered at the Hartford Stage in October of 2011.
