Carnegie Hall today announced that pianist Martha Argerich has withdrawn from her duo-recital with violinist Itzhak Perlman on Thursday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Ms. Argerich-who was scheduled to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of a six-concert US tour-has withdrawn from all upcoming US tour engagements this spring due to family and health problems. "I am very sorry having to cancel my upcoming tour in the United States with Itzhak Perlman, whom I deeply admire and with whom I love playing," said Ms. Argerich. "Because of family and health problems, I cannot for the moment travel far and for extensive periods of time away from my home in Europe. Thank you very, very much for your understanding."
Carnegie Hall today announced that Rhiannon Giddens, Toshi Reagon, and Young Paris will join Broadway's Carrie Compere (The Color Purple) as guest artists for A Time Like This: Music for Change, a special concert on Sunday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage hosted by Def Jam Poetry veteran Lemon Andersen and featuring a nineteen-piece band led by Kenny Seymour (Amazing Grace, Memphis). From hip-hop's beginnings to its current status as a cultural behemoth, the Bay Area has contributed mightily to the art form and its global influence, producing icons such as E-40, 2 Pac, Mac Dre, and groups like Hieroglyphics, Quannum, and The Heartbreak Gang. The Bay Area continues to be a key part of today's global hip-hop community, and this event is a celebration of its many musical contributions. The event will take place in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe.
