Based on the smart, feel-good movie, Akeelah and the Bee tells the story of a spirited and independent 11-year old from South Side, Chicago. Akeelah has an immense passion for words, and her razor-sharp mind and tenacity keeps her one step ahead of the game in the neighborhood...but is it enough to get her to the top? Akeelah must turn to family, friends, and a few unlikely mentors if she's going to survive the final round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. A story about family, intolerance and overcoming the odds, Akeelah and the Bee is a heartfelt look at how one person has the potential to change the world around them.

Onstage January 9 through 28, the smash hit musical Hairspray kicks off the New Year at the Theatre. The musical takes place in 1962 Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad a girl with big hair and an even bigger heart is on a mission to dance her way onto national TV. When her dream comes true on the Corny Collins Show, Tracy transforms from social outcast to teen superstar and sets out to integrate the show.

Frontier Comedy are pleased to announce that due to overwhelming demand, additional shows at Brisbane's Powerhouse Theatre (Thu 15 Jun, 9:30pm) and Adelaide's Her Majesty's Theatre (Sun 11 Jun, 4pm) have been added to Alan Cumming's upcoming Australian tour. Tickets to the newly added Brisbane and Adelaide shows are on sale from 9am AEST today.
