Ernest Bloch's MACBETH to be Performed at Manhattan School of Music

The Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater will be presenting Ernest Bloch's Macbeth on Wednesday, December 10 and Friday, December 12 at 7:30 pm.; and on Sunday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the School's Borden Auditorium. Bloch's only opera, composed when the composer was in his early 20's, is set to a libretto by the composer's friend, the poet Edmond Fleg, after Shakespeare's play. (more...)

NBC commissioned Gian Carlo Menotti to write Maria Golovin, which had its premiere at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair and ran briefly on Broadway in late 1958 before its television premiere on NBC Opera on March 8, 1959.
