The Crucible Theatre Closes ME AND MY GIRL Jan. 29

Sheffield Theatres has today announced casting for its production of ME AND MY GIRL this December. Daniel Crossley takes the lead role of Bill Snibson, Jemima Rooper will play Sally and Miriam Margolyes will take the part of the Duchess. The production is the first musical to be staged at the Crucible following its £15.3 million redevelopment. The production will be directed by Anna Mackmin. The production will run from 2 December until 29 January 2011.

Deaf West Theatre Presents ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO, 2/19-3/26

Kicking off its 20th Anniversary, Deaf West Theatre puts its own, unique spin on the classic story of a mischievous puppet who wishes to become a real, live boy. Using a mix of deaf and hearing actors, Stephen Rothman directs The Adventures of Pinocchio, a commedia dell arte adaptation of Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel by Lee Hall that brims with clever political subtext and sly social commentary. Deaf West's retelling of Pinocchio's treacherous journey through childhood opens February 19 at Deaf West Theatre in North Hollywood's NoHo Arts District, with two low-priced previews on February 17 and 18. (The Adventures of Pinocchio is rated 'PG' for mild language and dark themes - recommended for ages 10 and up.)

Talking to the UK Telegraph, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber tells the paper that The Wizard of Oz, which opens in February 2011 in London (and already has a $13+ million dollar advance) will play America next, with talks underway to do a television casting show for Dorothy as he's done in the UK. Britain's loss could be America's gain, however. 'A couple of the networks in the US have wanted to build something around what I do on TV, and I think with Oz something is definitely going to happen there. The X Factor juggernaut is going to be huge there next year but other networks are looking for something to go against it. Once we've found a Dorothy in the US, my instinct is to open the show in Kansas [Dorothy's home].'

Sir Peter Hall Awarded Moscow Art Theatre's Golden Seagull

Sir Peter Hall was awarded the Moscow Art Theatre's Golden Seagull for his contribution to world theatre at the Evening Standard theatre awards in London. This marks the second award in a week for the Rose Theatre following their award for Best Commitment to the Community at the Kingston Business Awards 2010.

PASSION, CLYBOURNE PARK Win London Evening Standard Awards

According to the BBC, PASSION was named the Best Musical at the 56th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards while Bruce Norris's CLYBOURNEY PARK won the Best Play Award on Nov. 28 in a ceremony at London's Savoy Hotel. Sir Peter Hall was also honored with the Moscow Art Theatre's Golden Seagull Award for his contribution to world theatre while Sir Michael Gambon was awarded the Lebedev Special Award for his contribution to British theatre.
