SHREK THE MUSICAL Heads to Children's Theatre Company Today

Acclaimed director Peter Rothstein (Cabaret, Theatre Latte? Da) will bring a magnetic Shrek the Musical to life on CTC's UnitedHealth Group Stage beginning today, April 22. With a seasoned cast including Reed Sigmund, Autumn Ness and Ansa Akyea, incredible scenic and costume designs, choreography by Michael Matthew Ferrell and Tony-nominated music, Shrek is an ogre-sized musical with an equally big soul, sure to delight everyone from the very young to the young at heart.

Robert Dorfman Makes Children's Theatre Company Debut in BALLOONACY, Now thru 5/4

Children's Theatre Company welcomes Robert Dorfman, celebrated actor of stage, film and television, to the Cargill Stage in the world premiere of Balloonacy by award-winning playwright Barry Kornhauser. Dorfman, who recently relocated to the Twin Cities, will make his CTC debut as the Old Man in this world premiere production for two to five years-olds. Public performances of Balloonacy will run weekends today, March 29 through May 4 with three performances each Saturday and Sunday.

CTC Extends SHREK Through 6/15

Overwhelming early popularity and a Twin Cities All-Star cast has led to strong ticket sales for Shrek the Musical, prompting a one-week extension to the run. Shrek the Musical is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Peter Rothstein directs the production, which runs for all ages April 22 through June 15.

Children's Theatre Company's upcoming world premiere brings together an impressive team of 2013 Ivey Award winners. Peter C. Brosius directs lauded actor Dean Holt who will bring his comedic physical prowess, for which he won a 2013 Ivey Award, to the title role in The Scarecrow and His Servant by Philip Pullman, adapted for the stage by Jeffrey Hatcher, recipient of the 2013 Ivey Award for Lifetime Achievement. Brosius received the 2013 Ivey Award for his direction of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, also featuring Dean Holt. This fast-paced, physically adept world premiere runs on the UnitedHealth Group Stage tonight, March 11 through April 6 after years of development, including workshops at the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices festival.

2014-2015 at Children's Theatre Company is a season of dreams fulfilled. Children's Theatre Company Receives $75K NEA Grant to Support New Work

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. CTC is recommended for a $75,000 grant to support the commissioning and production of new work for young audiences.

The season will also include a beloved classic never before seen at CTC and a Philip Pullman masterpiece brought to the stage for the first time. The Wong Kids in The Secret of the Space Chupacabra Go! by Lloyd Suh is CTC's first ever sci-fi anime inspired production. This world premiere will be co-produced with the Ma- Yi Theater Company and run at CTC before playing in New York.

Children’s Theatre Company Presents LIZZIE BRIGHT AND THE BUCKMINSTER BOY, 3/16-4/8

One hundred years ago on the shores of Maine, the African American population of Malaga Island was forced to evacuate their homes under the guise of economic improvement for a nearby, neighboring town. Beginning Fri., March 16, Children's Theatre Company (CTC) will mark the 100th anniversary of this event by bringing this, and the emotionally charged story of an unlikely friendship, to the stage in Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy.
