Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Closes Northrop Moves 2011-12 Season, 5/1-2

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater closes the 2011-12 Northrop Moves Dance season with new works and returning favorites, with artistic director Robert Battle and associate artistic director Masazumi Chaya, tonight, May 1 and tomorrow May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Northrop's Orpheum Theatre.

Michael Boyd to Be Honored at Theatre for a New Audience’s Spring Gala, 5/7

Acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) Artistic Director Michael Boyd will receive the Samuel H. Scripps Award at Theatre for a New Audience's Spring Gala Celebrating Shakespeare's 448th Birthday. Paul Taylor Company Dancer Michael Apuzzo Writes FLYING THROUGH YELLOW

If life is a road of traffic lights for every milestone, green means go and red means stop, but at yellow, how do we know whether to slow down or speed up? That's the question asked by Michael Apuzzo, a principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, in his first book FLYING THROUGH YELLOW (March 15, 2012; Fast Car Press), his engaging memoir of his parallel evolution as an artist and a young gay man.

Parsons Dance Holds 2012 Annual Spring Gala Tonight

Parsons Dance and Gala Chair Linda Stocknoff's 2012 Annual spring Gala, Paint it Red, honoring Nancy Browne, Parsons Dance friend and co-commissioner of 2011 premiere work Portinari, will be held tonight, Monday, April 16, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Espace, 635 W. 42nd Street, NYC. The evening will begin with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and silent auction at 7:30 p.m., followed by a dinner, live auction, and performance by Parsons Dance at 8:30 p.m., then a full night of social dancing. The Martha Graham Dance Company (Janet Eilber, Artistic Director; LaRue Allen, Executive Director) is having a special engagement at The Joyce Theater, NYC; March 13-18. Inner Landscape, the latest offering in the company's innovative series of thematic performances including contextual media and narration, features the acclaimed Graham psychological works in which she laid bare the human psyche. There will be two programs presented by the company as well as a Family matinee show on Saturday-March 17 at 2:00pm. New works by Lar Lubovitch and Yvonne Rainer premiere on March 13 and 15 respectively. Both programs will open with an abstract film montage which overlays excerpts of Graham dancing her psychological works with moments from psychological films of the same era.
