Gardner and Fanny Church are moving out of their Beacon Hill house and into their summer cottage on Cape Cod. Gardner, once a famous poet, is now retired and fading. Fanny valiantly tries to keep them both afloat. They have asked their daughter, Mags, to come home and help them move. Mags agrees, for she hopes as well to finally paint their portrait. She is now on the verge of artistic celebrity herself and hopes, by painting her parents, to come to terms with them, and they with her.

The Arizona premiere of FOLLIES opened on the Gyder Stage at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts on February 20, 2015. The music and lyrics of the dazzling FOLLIES score are by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. The book is by Academy Award winner James Goldman, also known for The Lion in Winter. Under the direction of Philip Fazio, Stephen Sondheim's Follies is receiving Arizona's first fully produced production at Theater Works. Mr. Fazio has pulled out all the stops to stage an extravaganza that in Broadway lore has been dubbed one of the great milestones of musical theater. Conceptually, the show has the ingredients and the theatrical devices that can make for a great show, but, live and on stage, the production feels cluttered. Its brilliance lies rather in its outstanding technical aspects, in large part attributable to Mr. Fazio's artistic vision.
