MADAMA BUTTERFLY Closes Seattle Opera Season, Beginning Tonight, 5/5

Puccini's searing tragedy of East and West brings down the curtain on Seattle Opera's 2011/12 season. One of opera's most beloved characters, Cio-Cio-San, tests the limits of faith and choose death over dishonor at the climax of eight performances of Madama Butterfly, tonight, May 5 through May 20, 2012. The production features the Seattle Opera debuts of five exciting artists, and the opening night performance tonight, May 5 will also be the company's first-ever simulcast.

Ravinia Festival Announces 2012 Season: Idina Menzel, Barbara Cook & More!

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The summer boasts a variety of music's legends from Philip Glass to James Taylor, along with 43 debuts, including Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel, reggae master Jimmy Cliff, classic rocker Santana, Grammy-and-Oscar sensation Esperanza Spalding, and Musical America's "conductor of the year" Jaap van Zweden. Ravinia Music Director James Conlon celebrates the 35th anniversary of his own festival debut as his contract is extended through 2014.

Washington National Opera Announces 2012-2013 Season: SHOW BOAT, NORMA & More

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced its 2012-2013 season-Anna Bolena, Don Giovanni, Manon Lescaut, Norma, and Show Boat. WNO also expands its season to include a family production of Hansel and Gretel in the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater, extends its Celebrity Concert Series with performances by opera stars Nathan Gunn and Diana Damrau plus a recital by rising star Angela Meade, and continues its partnership with the Washington Nationals with a free Opera in the Outfield performance of Don Giovanni.

Pace Presents Patricia Racette, 3/11

On March 11, Pace University's inaugural Pace Presents season at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts in Lower Manhattan continues with a cabaret performance by world-renowned soprano Patricia Racette. Racette, a Richard Tucker Award winner and regular presence at major opera houses internationally for over 20 years, has received considerable acclaim for her performances, which the New York Times has described as "deeply affecting and impassioned," with her voice possessing "uncommon richness, expressivity and honesty."

Marcelo Álvarez To Replace Aleksandrs Antonenko In The Met's TOSCA 1/28

In the final performance of this season's run of Tosca on January 28th, which will be an international Saturday matinee radio broadcast, tenor Marcelo Álvarez will sing the role of Cavaradossi, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who has withdrawn due to illness.
