Adam Diegel will sing the role of Pinkerton in this evening's performance of Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera, replacing Marcello Giordani, who is ill.

Diegel sang Pinkerton at the Met on February 17 and 22, and has also sung the role at Arizona Opera, Kentucky Opera, and at Finland's Savonlinna Opera Festival. He made his Met debut as Froh in the 2010 new production premiere of Wagner's Das Rheingold, a role he reprises in complete cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen this spring. Earlier this season, he sang Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco.

Madama Butterfly, conducted by Plácido Domingo, also stars Patricia Racette as Cio-Cio-San, Maria Zifchak as Suzuki, and Laurent Naouri as Sharpless.
