Artizfacts Studio Gallery Opens Space to ArtsFest, 8/23

(www.artizfacts.com) Friday, August 23rd, Saturday, August 24th, 2013 - Artizfacts Studio Gallery has enriched the visual arts community in New Rochelle, NY. Kevin McDowell, artist/owner, is an arts advocate and a licensed arts educator of NYS. He has opened his space to the public during the successful run of ArtsFest 2012 in New Rochelle. He offers arts instruction to all ages to the residence and the surrounding communities. Now the Artizfacts studio Gallery will be open for the social night life with a monthly Art Party Social event every third Friday and Saturday. The Art Party Social events will serve as a platform to showcase live musical entertainment and host exhibits for new emerging artist and performers. The first opening event will feature the Tim Reyes Quartet Saturday, August 24 th 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Tim Reyes studied with jazz masters Pat Mrtino, John Scofield and Pat Metheny, and has played with various local artists such as NY jazz Saxist Tyrone Birkett.

Guitarist Jason Vieaux to Perform at the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, 8/14

Celebrated guitarist Jason Vieaux will join flautist Marya Martin, violinists Frank Huang and Ani Kavafian, violist Ettore Causa, cellist Clive Greensmith, pianist Shai Wosner, percussionist Ayono Kataoka, and mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway for an evening of chamber music on Wednesday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m., part of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. Vieaux, described as "among the elite of today's classical guitarists." (Gramophone), will be opening the concert with selections from Robert Beaser's Grammy-nominated Mountain Sounds for Flute and Guitar. The piece consists of eight songs based on traditional Appalachian folk melodies, modifying their modal-tonal structures and rhythms but never varying too far from the original source.

A DANCER'S DREAM: TWO WORKS BY STRAVINSKY to be Distributed to Worldwide Cinemas, Sept 2013

The New York Philharmonic's season-finale program, A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky — conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert and starring New York City Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns in a production created by Giants Are Small — will be distributed to cinemas worldwide by SpectiCast beginning September 2013. This unique cinema event, produced by the New York Philharmonic, will feature a complete concert broadcast, behind-the- scenes footage, as well as a brief intermission feature on Stravinsky's history with the New York Philharmonic, featuring video and other exclusive material from the New York Philharmonic Digital Archives.

Scott Siegel, the creator, writer, and host of Broadway by the Year has selected a half dozen performers to star in the concert, including Howard McGillin, who holds the record for playing 'The Phantom' longer than any other actor in Broadway history. He will be joined by one of his Christines, Jennifer Hope Wills. Drama Desk Nominees Farah Alvin (The Marvelous Wonderettes) and Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday) return toBroadway by the Year. Lisa Brescia, who starred on Broadway in Twyla Tharp's The Times They Are A-Changin', as Elphaba in Wicked, and as Donna in Mamma Mia! makes her Broadway by the Year debut and favorite Scott Coulter will direct and star in the concert. 2013 Juno Awards Winners Announced

The 2013 Juno Awards were announced last night in Regina, Saskatchewan. Three of the four classical categories were won by Naxos and its distributed labels including the first ever win for a composer in the new Naxos Canadian Classics series (http://bit.ly/ZH6hx4).

MA Youth Percussion Ensemble Takes Bronze at WGI Sport of the Arts 2013 Championships

Spirit of America Winter Percussion Ensemble won the Bronze Medal in their division in the WinterGuard (WGI) Sport of the Arts 2013 Percussion World Championships in Dayton, OH, with a score of 92.863. They also captured a 2013 'Fan Favorite' Award. Competing against 29 teams from across the United States, this group of 22 young people (ages 10-22) proudly marched for the people of Boston as they poured their hearts into the show Perpetual Cycles, demonstrating the resiliency of life and hope in the face of death and loss.

MA Youth Percussion Ensemble Qualifies for World Championship Finals

Orleans-based Spirit of America Winter Percussion Ensemble has qualified for the finals in the Independent Marching A Division of WinterGuard (WGI) Sport of the Arts 2013 Percussion World Championships in Dayton, OH, placing second with a score of 93.075. Competing against 29 teams from across the United States, this group of 22 young people (ages 10-22) presented a passionate exploration of life, death, and the promise of rebirth in their show Perpetual Cycles. Finals will take place Friday, April 19 at 9pm at the University of Dayton Arena. Spirit is the defending 2012 World Champion in the Percussion Independent Marching A Division of WGI Sport of the Arts.

Two-time Tony Nominee Christine Andreas, Tony Nominee Emily Skinner, Drama Desk Nominees Kerry O'Malley and Jeffry Denman, and two-time Nightlife Award Winner Scott Coulter will star in The Broadway Musicals of 1961 at Town Hall on Monday, March 11th at 8 PM. The critically-acclaimed new Broadway by the Year Chorus will join them in performing songs from Carnival, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Subways Are For Sleeping, Sail Away, Milk and Honey, and more! The concert will be directed and choreographed by Jeffry Denman; the Broadway by the Year Chorus is under the direction of Scott Coulter; musical direction will be by Ross Patterson.
