The 19th Annual Summer Solstice Celebration by the Paul Winter Consort with special guests trombonist Chris Brubeck (The Brubeck Brothers Quartet/Triple Play), multi-instrumentalist Paul McCandless (Oregon/Pat Metheny) and world-renowned pipe organist Timothy Brumfield will once again welcome the summer on June 21st in the world's largest Gothic cathedral, St. John the Divine located at Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. Winter and colleagues will premiere a new work, "Morning of the Phoenix,"inspired by the two spectacular 100-foot long bird sculptures, entitled Phoenix, by renowned Chinese artist Xu Bing that were recently installed in the nave of the cathedral. Beginning in complete darkness at 4:30 AM, musicians play for two hours as the sun gradually illuminates the cathedral's stained-glass windows.

Pianist Brad Mehldau will replace pianist Andre Previn at Blue Note Jazz Club, today, June 6 through Sunday, June 8, as part of the 2014 Blue Note Jazz Festival. Previn was initially scheduled to perform with bassist Christian McBride during that time frame and has had to postpone the engagement due to unforeseen circumstances.

Born in Berkeley, California in the 1960s, Joshua Redman is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He is one of the most recognizable jazz saxophonists, as famous for his masterful straight-ahead post-bop improvisations as he is for his explorations of groove-based idioms. Redman won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition for saxophone in 1991, and has played alongside of many jazz icons including Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, and Clark Terry.
