Everyone's favorite practically perfect nanny takes flight this holiday season with Centenary Stage Company's Family Holiday Musical Mary Poppins, November 25 through December 11 at the Lackland Performing Arts Center.  This "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" musical adventure is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, astonishing stagecraft and a live orchestra.  Centenary Stage Company's Family Holiday Musical not only signifies the start of the holiday season for many but celebrates all of Centenary Stage Company's programming by combining local regional talent, CSC staff, Centenary University Theatre Department faculty and students, Young Performers Workshop students and professional guest artists.

This holiday season, Hillbarn Theatre - the Peninsula's premier community theatre company - will present Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins, the magical high-flying musical that has swept the hearts and imaginations of families around the globe. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins follows the story of young Jane and Michael who have sent many nannies packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of common sense - and a little bit of magic - she teaches the family members how to value each other again. This delightful musical features favorite Mary Poppins tunes including 'A Spoonful of Sugar,' 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,' 'Jolly Holiday,' 'Let's Go Fly a Kite,' 'Step in Time,' and 'Chim Chiminey.'

Variety reports that Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw have signed on to the cast of Disney's MARY POPPINS RETURNS. The actors will join previously announced cast members Emily Blunt, Meryl Street and Lin-Manuel Miranda in the film.

Emily Blunt discusses her latest challenge of stepping into the iconic shoes of Julie Andrews for Disney's upcoming MARY POPPINS RETURNS.

Emily Blunt can officially add the approval of the original Mary Poppins herself to a growing list of accolades. According to Entertainment Weekly, when Rob Marshall, the director of the upcoming film, first told Julie Andrews the top-secret news that Emily Blunt would be playing the titular character in the highly-anticipated sequel, her reaction was, 'Oh, wonderful!'

According to Variety, Oscar-winner Meryl Streep is in talks to join Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt in the upcoming MARY POPPINS RETURNS coming from Disney in 2018. According to the publication, 'Streep is said to play the role of Poppins' cousin, Topsy, a supporting role that wasn't in the 1964 classic. Streep would also sing for the part, much like she did in "Into the Woods," which earned her a record 19th Oscar nomination.'

If North Shore Music Theatre's production of Mary Poppins was conceived to prove Murphy's Law right (Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong), then producer Bill Hanney and director Kevin P. Hill have crafted a masterpiece. Perhaps it's best described through the disbelief of Michael Banks following an afternoon spent rollicking in the park with his mystical nanny; 'Did that really just happen?' It certainly did and with a calamitous kerplunk.

As many of you might know, it is always a 'Jolly Holiday' with Mary. Poppins that is. This Practically Perfect Nanny first burst on the scene in 1934, in the children's books written by P.L. Travers. In 1964, the beloved Disney movie starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke was released. This is where most of us fell in love with Mary Poppins. Mary was once again transformed in 2004, when she was brought to life on stage in London's West End. While not especially faithful to the movie, the show morphs into a crafty Broadway musical. As with many Disney adaptations, new songs have been added, and you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the iconic Sherman Brothers tunes and those penned by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. They fit flawlessly, and the up-tempo 'Anything Can Happen' is as good as anything from the film.
