After a critically acclaimed series premiere last month, Ovation is set to roll into the second season of X Company just a few weeks after its first season ends. Inspired by the true story of Camp X, a top-secret Allied spy training facility in Lake Ontario, the series stars Evelyne Brochu (Orphan Black), Jack Laskey (Endeavour), Hugh Dillon (Flashpoint, Continuum), Warren Brown (Luther, Strike Back), Dustin Milligan (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Schitt's Creek), Connor Price (Being Human) and Lara Jean Chorostecki (Designated Survivor, Hannibal). George Mason University is a bit of a trek when discussing arts organizations in the DMV area. If Saturday night's School of Dance Fete and Gala Concert is any indicator, then this trek is worth making. Celebrating the strides Mason's (still young) dance program has made in recent years, the evening was a unique combination of educational panels and dance showcases. With four moving performances capping off the evening, Mason's dance program cements itself as one to not be underestimated.

For our 86th show we once again celebrate April Fools and all things April Foolish, one of our favorite shows to do. After a year and three months of doing the initial Kritzerland shows, we inaugurated the Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal room on April 1, 2012, so this is our sixth anniversary in the room. That, of course, is reason enough to come but it's also always a wild and wacky show.
There is much to enjoy in Coyote Stageworks' production of THE COCKTAIL HOUR, by A.R. Gurney: the script is funny, the directing is top-notch, and there is a great deal of excellent acting. Unfortunately, one actor was sick at the performance I attended, resulting in problems for the show that night.

Continuing its season theme of "Off Your Rocker," The Highwood Theatre will present an all-new production of the quirky musical "Soon," opening in April. "Soon" is Highwood's 5th annual Open Source Theatre Project, and with the intent of redefining conceptions of a traditional night at the theatre, will feature two casts - one made up of talented high school students and one of adult professionals. The two casts will rehearse together and perform in repertory, supported by a student design team and student crew.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Lorna Luft collapsed backstage last week after a concert at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in London. The singer, who was having trouble remembering both lyrics and monologues was rushed to the hospital where she has been 'initially diagnosed with a brain tumor' according to her spokesperson, Victoria Varela.
The UK premiere of The Last Ship - the acclaimed musical by the internationally renowned musician Sting - just opened at Northern Stage in Newcastle. The production has a TONY-nominated original score and lyrics composed by Sting. It will play a 4-week season in Newcastle before embarking on a major UK & Ireland Tour.
Bright Colors And Bold Patterns has announced its fourth and final extension as the show's author and original star Drew Droege returns to finish the triumphant five-month run Thursday, April 5 through Monday, April 9. The final performance will be filmed by BroadwayHD, the premiere streaming service that brings live theater productions to viewers all over the world, to be broadcast available on the platform later this season.
Florida Studio Theatre announces its 36th annual Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, which will present three new staged readings by modern American playwrights. Part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays, this three-day series will take place in Bowne's Lab Theatre on April 29, May 6, and May 13 at 3 PM each day.
