In June, New Conservatory Theatre Center welcomes the return of Sordid Lives creator, Del Shores with the San Francisco premiere of Six Characters in Search of a Play, directed by Emerson Collins. This one-man show is filled with six one-of-a-kind characters Del Shores met in real life, that haven't quite made it into any of his other plays, films, or TV shows. Over the course of 90 minutes, the audience will meet "Yvonne" the anti-vegetarian Dallas waitress; "Sarah", a Trump-hating elderly actress with an inhaler in one-hand and a cigarette in the other; "Jimmy Ray", the evolving, Magic Mike-loving latent Georgia redneck; "Loraine", the once brilliant drama teacher who has lost her mind and is now obsessed with porn; "Marsha", the monkey-hating lesbian with COPD; and "Aunt Bobby Sue", the racist Republican with a heart of gold.
The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) continues its intimate "Jazz Club" performances with jazz trumpeter Amir ElSaffar and his Two Rivers Ensemble on Thursday, April 26 at 8:00pm. ElSaffar was born to an American mother and an Iraqi father. After studying classical music in the U.S. and Iraqi maqam music in Baghdad, he forged his own path by mixing ornaments and microtones from Arab music with melodies and harmonies from the West. During last night's galactic premiere of OPIUM, the crew of the Orbital People Mover 4.2 (OPM 4.2) blasted off on their inaugural interplanetary flight from the planet Uranus, successfully landing at the OPIUM Theatre at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Earth. On its maiden voyage, the starship's passengers were treated to a stellar performance by an irreverent ensemble crew of fools, many showcasing their peculiar talents - from sword swallowing and singing, to feats of danger, wonder, extreme athleticism, and more.
