The Hill Country Community Theatre announces the cast for the final show of its 2017-18 season, Rodgers and Hammerstein's "State Fair", which will run from July 19 through August 5.

The Best of Broadway presented by Planet Fitness series announced the shows for the 2018-2019 season today. The series' 20th anniversary season will welcome six shows including the return of Les Miserables (October 16-21, 2018), back by popular demand after a successful engagement in 2013. The season also includes Something Rotten! (November 12 & 13, 2018); Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I (December 4 & 5, 2018); The Sound of Music (March 12 & 13, 2019); Finding Neverland (April 2 & 3, 2019); and the highly-anticipated return of Jersey Boys (May 7 & 8, 2019). All performances are at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, adapted by Tom Briggs and Timothy Allen McDonald. It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

Armed with a grand, sweeping songbook from Rodgers and Hammerstein, and a romantic, progressive-for-its-time book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan, it is difficult not to be continually enchanted by SOUTH PACIFIC, the groundbreaking 1949 stage musical based on James A. Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Even better… sandwiched between memorable songs, romantic interludes, and cheeky, comedic banter is the show's surprisingly candid exploration of race relations---a topic that is, of course, still very much top-of-mind in today's seemingly more divided world. With such important ideological stakes in mind, when a production of this musical presents its material well and in the best possible light, you're almost always guaranteed a show that can still pack an emotional wallop while entertaining you at the same time. Such is the case with McCoy Rigby Entertainment's irresistibly appealing new production of SOUTH PACIFIC, now currently on stage at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through May 13, 2018.

Drury Lane Theatre announces a one-night-only event with celebrated author Todd S. Purdum, in connection with its acclaimed production of the Tony Award-winning musical South Pacific. Purdum is the author of the new book SOMETHING WONDERFUL: A Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution. During the evening, Purdum will read excerpts from his new book and answer questions about the famed duo and their works. Guests will receive a signed copy of SOMETHING WONDERFUL and enjoy dinner at Lucille Restaurant, followed by a performance of South Pacific. The 2018-2019 season includes six Broadway shows, headlined by the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Blockbuster Beautiful - The Carole King Musical. Back by popular demand following last season's 100th birthday tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, Gabrielle Stravelli sings the songs of Richard Rodgers in "It Might as Well Be Swing," at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center on Sunday, May 27 at 3pm. Stravelli will be joined by a 17-piece swing band, including acclaimed jazz pianist Dr. Art Topilow and clarinetist Carl Topilow, conductor of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra.

While the stage version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC does not follow the movie exactly, and the choreography at times seems contrived and clumsy, fans of the story will delight in Douglas W. Schmidt's sets, Tony Award-winner Jane Greenwood's costumes, and of course, in Rodgers and Hammerstein's music. In fact, at DPAC Friday night, you could hear the hum of the audience under the iconic songs, which seem to connect us all to each other in some way.

Ghostlight Records has announced that PRINCE OF BROADWAY Original Broadway Cast Recording is available in physical, digital and streaming formats today, Friday, April 20. The 16-page CD booklet includes color production photography and liner notes by Hal Prince and David Thompson.

From the sun baked Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the 20th century comes the Broadway classic, Oklahoma!, beginning April 11 with a press opening on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Due to high demand, an additional week is now on sale through June 10. Featuring a powerful score by legendary duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs, Oklahoma! will be directed by Artistic Director and Jeff Award-winner Aaron Thielen (She Loves Me, Spring Awakening). Jeff Award nominee Alex Sanchez (Marriott Theatre: Newsies, Evita, On the Town, Mary Poppins) will choreograph, with Musical Direction and orchestrations by Jeff Award winner Ryan T. Nelson.
