Deadline.com reports that Zac Efron is close to signing on to two future feature films. The first is Warner Brothers' 'The Lucky One,' Will Fetters and Doug McGrath's adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel, directed by Scott Hicks. In it, Efron would play a soldier returning from Iraq seeking the girl in his 'good luck' photograph. The second film is 'Die in a Gunfight,' an original screenplay by recent NYU graduates Andrew Berrer and Gabriel Ferrari. In it, Efron would play a Romeo-type young man in a romance forbidden by two feuding families.

'The Stranger' (1946), directed by and starring Orson Welles, will be screened as the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' series 'Oscar Noir: 1940s Writing Nominees from Hollywood's Dark Side' on Monday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
