David Farland, Orson Scott Card, Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta and the Winner Twins Host Writers of the Future Writers Workshop
by Christina Mancuso - Sep 3, 2015

For over 30 years, the Writers of the Future Contest has been one of the premier writing contests in the science fiction and fantasy field, known not just for the awards ceremony and the prize money, but especially for the intensive week-long writing workshop taught by some of the biggest names in the field. This workshop has been available only to the winners. Until now. This past weekend, a condensed version of the Writers of the Future workshop was made available to the public. Held in Hollywood, the workshop covered the entire business of the writing process from crafting an idea to scheduling time to write, to editing, to finding the right agent and ultimately publishing what you write. The workshop was led by New York Times bestselling author David Farland (The Runelords), and with a special session by Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game), Kevin J. Anderson (co-author of 14 novels in the Dune universe), Rebecca Moesta (Young Jedi Knights novels) and special guest instructors, successful indie authors the Winner Twins (The Strand Prophecy). The next workshop has been tentatively scheduled for January 30-31, 2016. The Writers of the Future writing contest (www.writersofthefuture.com) was initiated by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 to provide a means for aspiring writers to get that much-needed break. Due to the success of the Writing Contest, the companion Illustrators of the Future Contest was created in 1988. The intensive mentoring process has proven very successful. Bestselling Sci Fi and Fantasy Authors Host Hollywood Writing Workshop
by Christina Mancuso - Aug 6, 2015

Are you an aspiring writer in Hollywood looking for tips? Isn't everyone? The once-exclusive two day Writers of the Future writing workshop instructed by New York Times bestselling authors Dave Farland (Star Wars: The Rising Force), Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game), Kevin J. Anderson (Dune prequels, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), Rebecca Moesta (Young Jedi Knights series) and award-winning authors and instructors Brittany & Brianna Winner (The Winner Twins) will be made available to the public, August 29th and 30th in Hollywood, CA at the offices of Galaxy Press. As any new author has experienced, it is increasingly difficult to make any book stand out in the market. With less than a 1% chance of being stocked in the average bookstore, most book marketing today is done by authors themselves, not publishers. The book publishing world is in a never-ending state of turmoil with the high complexities of the business, intense competition and increasing changes and challenges. This includes the recent explosion in digital sales that has replaced traditional book sales, with even slimmer profits to cover publishing expenses. The Writers of the Future workshop has been a highlight of the most enduring and influential contest in the history of science fiction and fantasy, the Writers of the Future Contest. This month the latest edition of the winners' anthology hit the Publisher's Weekly Sci Fi Bestseller list. With a panel of judges including authors whose distinguished careers span the entire history of modern science fiction and fantasy (from the masters of the 'Golden Age' in 1930's and 1940's to the present), the contest was created in 1983 by NYT Bestselling author L. Ron Hubbard, as a means to discover and nurture new talent in speculative fiction. With no entry fee, it offers one of the largest cash prizes for short story speculative fiction, up to $5,000. The original roster of professional Judges include Dr. Gregory Benford, Algis Budrys, Frank Herbert, Anne McCaffrey, Larry Niven, Robert Silverberg, Theodore Sturgeon, Jack Williamson and Roger Zelazny. Limited tickets are still available for the workshop, which cover both days, food/beverages, free parking and all needed materials for the course. Call (323) 466-3310 or email jonil@authorservicesinc.com. More information is also available at www.galaxypress.com.
