The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Murder for Two, with book and music by Joe Kinosian and book and lyrics by Kellen Blair. Globe veteran Scott Schwartz (A Room with a View at the Globe, The Hunchback of Notre Dame at La Jolla Playhouse) returns to direct Blair and Kinosian's Off Broadway hit, a vaudevillian mystery musical with an energetic two-man cast. Murder for Two will run January 24 - March 1 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. (more...)

RIALTO CHATTER: Safety Issues to Postpone SPIDER-MAN Again?

According to the NY Times, the Broadway run of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark might be postponed once again; this time, because of safety issues. As reported previously, inspectors from The New York Department of Labor payed a visit to the Foxwoods Theatre to take a look at the flying devices and methods being used. Because they saw only some of the dozens of aerial stunts in the show, delays in the opening are likely. If the Department of Labor approves of the rest of the stunts in the next 10 days, then performances will begin on November 4. (more...)

Recently, the Associated Press was invited inside the Foxwoods Theatre to observe SPIDER-MAN in rehearsal. As reported on ABC News today, reporter Mark Kennedy reveals that the production will feature '41 cast members, 18 orchestra members and about 18 new songs by U2's Bono and the Edge.' The spared-no-expense 60M production also features a circular conveyor belt and high-intensity arial choreography by Cirque du Soliel. (more...)

Cohl: "Producing SPIDER-MAN is Scary"

He is the man who brought SPIDER-MAN back from the brink. In a feature out yesterday, the New York Times profiles Michael Cohl, the man about which we have heard little, but who is responsible for resurrecting the most expensive and, for some, most highly anticipated Broadway show in history. Cohl stepped into the role of lead producer on the mega-musical in the fall of 2009 after a significant investment in the show fell out, leaving the production stifled and dry. A former music tour promoter for U2 and the Rolling Stones, Cohl was recruited by SPIDER-MAN composers Bono and The Edge to reinvigorate the production. And reinvigorate it he has, with previews officially scheduled to begin in just months on November 14, 2010. (more...)
