Next Theatre Company to Open 33rd Season with COMPULSION, Begin. 10/10

Next Theatre Company announces the first production in their 33rd season, Rinne Groff's Compulsion, October 10 - November 17, directed by Devon de Mayo, at Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes Street. Previews are Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. Opening Night is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There are Saturday 4 p.m. performances October 27 and November 3, 10 and 17. Preview tickets are $25, Tickets are $30 - $40 with subscriber and student discounts available. Tickets may be purchased at nexttheatre.org or by calling 847-475-1875 x2.

American Games, a new play written by Kevin Slack and directed by Phil Blechman, opens tonight, September 3, 2013 at The American Theater of Actors (314 West 54th Street, New York). Produced by Five Point Productions, a production company made up of recent Syracuse University graduates, American Games opens the 2013 Araca Project.

Nicholas McGegan Returns to The Hollywood Bowl to Lead Music by Mozart and Beethoven Tonight

English conductor Nicholas McGegan comes to the Hollywood Bowl for the second time this season to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program of music by Mozart and Beethoven, tonight, September 3, at 8 pm. LA Phil First Associate Concertmaster Nathan Cole and PrincipAl Viola Carrie Dennis performing Mozart's Sinfonia concertante in E-flat major, K. 364. The program also includes Mozart's Overture to Cosi fan tutte and Beethoven's Contredanses, WoO 14 and Symphony No. 1.

MetroStage to Present GEE'S BEND, 9/12-11/3

Gee's Bend by Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder and directed by Thomas W. Jones II, music directed by William Hubbard and William Knowles will be in performance at MetroStage Sept. 12-Nov. 3. Gee's Bend tells the true story of the Pettway family in Gee's Bend, Alabama, as they live through segregation, the Civil Rights Movement and become famous for their iconic quilts. All of this is told with a backdrop of soul-stirring music in the gospel tradition that the Gee's Bend women sang as they quilted.

On this, the 43nd anniversary of All Nite Soul, the Jazz Ministry at Saint Peter's - the Jazz Church - is thrilled to honor pianist Barry Harris and vocalist Sheila Jordan. All Nite Soul begins on Sunday, October 13 at 5 PM with Jazz Vespersand vocalist Catherine Russell honoring Carline Ray (bassist and vocalist), and goes intofull swing at 7 PM with a concert of over 80 musicians honoring Barry Harris (pianist) and Sheila Jordan (vocalist), National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters who began their musical careers in Detroit, Michigan.

JOINT ATTENTION, TELL ME WHEN IT HURTS & More Set for Three Cat Productions' 2013-14 Season

Three Cat Productions is excited to announce its first full season, three world premieres of new works by Chicago playwrights, produced in partnership with the Chicago Park District's Berger Park Cultural Center at 6205 N. Sheridan Road. The 2013/14 season kicks off in fall with Joint Attention, a drama about the struggles of a young couple with an autistic child, by Pat Curtis. For the holidays, Three Cat presents Tell Me When It Hurts, a farcical romantic comedy, by Lisa Scott. The season concludes in spring with a new musical revue, Hang Your Hat at Mr. K's, about the stars who performed at one of Chicago's most famous jazz clubs; book written by Jarrin Davis. All three productions will be directed by Jason Paul Smith, Three Cat Productions Artistic Director. Tickets are now on sale at threecatproductions.com.

-The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO), Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), and American Composers Forum (ACF) are pleased to announce the second season of the Composer Conversation Series, events of which will take place at Amsterdam Bar & Hall in downtown Saint PaulSeptember 2013 through April 2014. A co-presentation of the SPCO, MPR and ACF, the Composer Conversation Series is intended for music lovers of all stripes. The series will feature some of today's most original, prominent, and prestigious voices in composition discussing their worldviews, artistic perspectives, and how their life experiences have shaped them into the artists they are today. The 2013-14 season will feature live interviews with distinctive creators John Harbison; Shawn Jaeger and Dawn Upshaw; Matthias Pintscher; Serengeti, Son Lux, and Sufjan Stevens with visual artist Jim Hodges (at The Walker Art Center); Timo Andres with Gabriel Kahane, Ted Hearne, Becca Stevens, and Nathan Koci; John Luther Adams; and Vivian Fung. The events will include time devoted for audience Q&A and informal pre- and post-show receptions.
