MADCO Presents MILLS/works at New York Live Arts, Now thru 7/13

From today, July 11 to 13 at New York Live Arts, Modern American Dance Company (MADCO) from St. Louis, MO will perform 'MADCO performs MILLS/works,' an evening of dances choreographed by former company member Joseph Mills. Mills performed with MADCO from 1981-1987. Subsequently, he was a member of MOMIX and The ERick Hawkins Dance Company and has performed and choreographed independently since 1990. Since 2000, he has frequently returned to St. Louis to create works for MADCO. In this program, MADCO will offer three of his works, one being a world premiere, and an audience favorite danced by Mr. Mills that was choreographed by Alan Boeding.

Guerra: a clown play is a satirical physical comedy created by Mexico City-based company La Piara in collaboration with writers/directors Seth Bockley (February House at The Public Theatre) and Devon de Mayo (The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler with Dog & Pony Theatre Company). Performed in three languages, Guerracombines slapstick, clown, dance, bouffant and farce to tell the story of a military outpost desperate for recruits, and the cannon fodder that a hapless General sends to war. This contemporary story of war's inhumanity is given a darkly humorous edge through the medium of clown.

Althoff Catholic High School Student Awarded New Line's Musical Theatre Scholarship

New Line Theatre, 'the Bad Boy of Musical Theatre,' soon to start its 23rd season of provocative, alternative musical theatre, has awarded its 2013 musical theatre scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to Elizabeth Ferris, of Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, who plans to study theatre at Illinois Wesleyan University. Judith Newmark, theatre critic for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, selects the winner of the scholarship each year, which is funded through the donations of New Line supporters.

'A Parallelogram,' the riveting new play by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Bruce Norris, is directed by Tony Award-winner Anna D. Shapiro at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum. 'A Parallelogram' will be presented at the Taper, tonight, July 10 through August 18, 2013. The opening is scheduled for July 21.

Oracle B*Sides is proud to announce the opening of PINK MILK, a new play by Alex Paul Young, in a co-production with White Elephant, a new Chicago theatre collective. PINK MILK is a drama infused with dance inspired by the life of Alan Turing, the British mathematician known as the father of modern computers. This poetic and compelling new play is directed by Brandon Powers. PINK MILK opens August 10, 2013, and runs through September 7, 2013 at Oracle Theatre (3809 N Broadway in Chicago). Performances are Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights at 8PM; Sundays at 7PM.

Sundance Institute today announced the acting company, artists-in-residence and creative advisors for the seven projects being developed at its 2013 Theatre Lab, July 8-28 at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Lab is the centerpiece of the Theatre Program's year-round work and is designed to support both emerging and established artists and to create a place where their original work can be effectively mentored and challenged free from commercial pressure.

The Dow Hotel Company, LLC (DHC), a hotel ownership, investment and management company, today announced that it has acquired in a joint venture with The Carlyle Group's (CG) Carlyle Realty Partners VI, the 269-room, Four Diamond-rated Hilton Orrington hotel in Evanston, Ill. It is the third property acquired by DHC and its investment partners in the past nine months. DHC will operate the hotel.
