FirstWorks announces the kickoff of their 2015 'Artistic Icons' Series with MUMMENSCHANZ, a Swiss mask troupe who revolutionized wordless theatrical entertainment. For over four decades, MUMMENSCHANZ has broken new ground with experimental works using highly visual, sculptural forms in fun and comical performances that entertain audience members across generations. The illustrious MUMMENSCHANZ will delight Rhode Island audiences with classic favorites and brilliant new works on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. at Veterans Memorial Auditorium (The Vets). The passion of flamenco, the glory of ancient Greece, and ¡duende! The latest program of Noche Flamenca embodies all in their current run through November 9 at the Joyce Theater. Noche Flamenca is Spain's most successful touring company and its greatest exponent of the art of flamenco in both performances and educational programs.

The Joyce Theater will present the return of Spain's most successful and authentic flamenco touring company, Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca, after three acclaimed engagements since 2011. Under the direction of Martin Santangelo, the company will present a program entitled Noche Flamenca y Antigona from tonight, October 29 - November 9.

In October, the UW World Series will present the world premiere of Antigona, a new work by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca. Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is one of the most authentic flamenco companies in the world today, and Soledad Barrio is its star. Now, in a unique creative partnership, this remarkable company joins with acclaimed American theater director Lee Breuer to create a new work, Antigona, based on Sophocles' ancient Greek heroine. Combining live music, song, and dance, Noche Flamenca's Antigona will bring the fiery, expressive nature of flamenco to one of the world's great tragedies in an evening-length work that promises to be both gripping and intensely moving. The work is conceived and directed by Martin Santangelo with choreography by Soledad Barrio, consulting direction by Lee Breuer, and visual and mask design by Mary Frank.

Linda Shelton, Executive Director of The Joyce Theater, announced today the organization's programming for its 2014-2015 fall/winter season, launching September 9 with the New York premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's extravagant production of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, danced by the magnificent dancers of the National Ballet of Canada at the David H.
