Over 150,000 New Tickets Released For WAR HORSE In West End, Booking Until 2/12/10

Today, 23 June, the National Theatre's award-winning production of War Horse will release over 150,000 new tickets for sale, taking bookings at the New London Theatre up to 12 February 2010. The National's sell-out production of Nick Stafford's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book transferred to the West End in March this year where it has been playing to packed houses ever since. Last week, just 12 weeks after its opening at the New London Theatre, War Horse recouped its transfer costs, having had a record breaking week of sales in May of over £330,000.

UK's National Theatre's NATION Gets International Broadcast on 230 Screens, 1/30

Terry Prachett's NATION, filmed live at the National Theatre in London, will be broadcast by satellite to cinemas worldwide on January 30th. NATION is the third play in the pilot season of NT Live, the National's ground-breaking initiative which launched in June with the hugely successful broadcast of Phedre with Helen Mirren, which was seen by 50,000 people in 19 countries around the globe.

London Theatre Scene Gearing Up for a Strong 2010 Season

The London theatre scene is set to have a strong 2010 season. Already announced is a mix of both revivals and original shows, as well as a solid combination of plays and musicals. In addition, a few hit Broadway transfers are set to travel across the pond and open along with UK originals this season. Variety reports on the upcoming season.

Despite Recession, UK Theatre Breaks Records in 2009

The Society of London Theatre, an entity which represents 52 theatrical venus in the capital, is expected to report that despite the ever present recession, 2009 proved to be a golden year for theatre, breaking records and selling more than 14 million tickets, reports a story in the BBC.

RIALTO CHATTER: HABIT OF ART Headed for Broadway in 2011?

The UK Daily Mail is reporting that Alan Bennett's The Habit of Art is hoping to move to Broadway in the Spring of 2011. The production began playing at the National Theatre's Lyttleton Theater in November 5, 2009 and will be broadcast in April 2010 live to cinema screens worldwide. It's expected that the leads, Richard Griffiths, Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour would accompany the production as well.

Silber is joined by Robert Patteri as Billy Bigelow ('Scarlet Pimpernel,' 'Beauty and the Beast'.) Veteran character actor M. Emmet Walsh appears as the Starkeeper. Michael Michetti, co-artistic director of The Theatre at Boston Court, will direct, with choreography by Lee Martino and musical direction by Darryl Archibald.

What's On Stage Awards Shortlist Announced

At a star-studded nominations party held today (4th December) at London's Café de Paris, the shortlist reveals that popular British screen stars, including Jude Law, Lenny Henry, Helen Mirren, Rachel Weisz, Alison Steadman, Dominic West, Mackenzie Crook and Patrick Stewart, will all battle it out for acting gongs.
