BWW Review: NY Public Library Celebrates Jerome Robbins in Exhibit VOICE OF MY CITY

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center opened its latest exhibit celebrating choreographer Jerome Robbins on Tuesday, September 25 with luminaries like Mikhail Baryshnikov in attendance. The exhibit, titled VOICE OF MY CITY: JEROME ROBBINS AND NEW YORK examines the relationship between the dance icon and the city he called home.

LEONARD BERNSTEIN: THE POWER OF MUSIC To Open At Brandeis University October 4

Leonard Bernstein: The Power of Music closed on Sunday, September 2, at the National Museum of American Jewish History. The first large-scale exhibition to document Bernstein's life, work, Jewish identity, and social activism, containing approximately 100 historic artifacts, will begin its national tour at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, opening October 4 and on view through November 18, 2018.

Last 2 Weeks to Catch An All-Star Cast of Actors in HEARTBREAK HOUSE

The acclaimed production of Gingold Theatrical Group's Heartbreak House has only two weeks remaining in its limited Off-Broadway engagement at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues), through September 29th only. The production will be filmed on September 28th to be preserved for posterity and added to the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Closes With Stars Of American Ballet & ODC/Dance

Bringing together some of today's most remarkable ballet talents, Daniel Ulbricht's Stars of American Ballet returns to Jacob's Pillow, appearing in the Ted Shawn Theatre August 22-26. A principal dancer with New York City Ballet since 2007, Ulbricht is lauded as "one of the best male ballet dancers in New York" (Dance Magazine). As Artistic Director, curator, and performer, Ulbricht brings a unique vision and perspective to performance. With a cast highlighting 14 powerhouse dancers of New York City Ballet, this collective celebrates the legacy of choreographic legend Jerome Robbins with a program of his masterpieces on the occasion of his centennial, augmented by two Robbins-related PillowTalks.

Highly acclaimed for her "fierce choreographic imagination" (The New York Times), Netta Yerushalmy makes her Pillow debut with the world premiere of Paramodernities, August 8-12. By deconstructing and re-examining iconic works by choreographers Vaslav Nijinsky, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham, Bob Fosse, and George Balanchine, Yerushalmy dismantles the modern tradition with both reverence and intensity. Performed by a diverse cast of dancers alongside contributions by scholars and writers, Paramodernities assembles some of today's best and brightest minds to bridge the sometimes disparate worlds of dance and academia.

BDL Choreography Intensive Launches Today

Broadway Dance Lab will launch its first summer Choreography Intensive today, welcoming 10 young choreographers, ages 18-29, for a one-week immersion in the art of theatre dance-making. The faculty roster includes BDL Artistic Director Josh Prince, Jeff Calhoun, JoAnn M. Hunter, Al Blackstone, Marc Bruni, and more. The program will run through August 5 at Baryshnikov Arts Center.

NPR Music And Lincoln Center Reveal Lineup For 2018 Out Of Doors Night Of Music And Conversation

What do the voices of the moment sound like? NPR Music and Lincoln Center are proud to unveil the complete, all-female artist lineup for the free night of music and conversation on August 1, part of Lincoln Center's Out of Doors festival in New York City. Carly Rae Jepsen, Jamila Woods, Mitski, and Phoebe Bridgers come together for a song circle, performing stripped down versions of their original music and discussing modern popular-music culture with moderator Ann Powers. I'm With Her performs the opening set.

Pianist Stephen Hough Returns to Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival

This summer at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, pianist Stephen Hough joins Louis Langree and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra for performances of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, in an all-Mozart program at David Geffen Hall on Friday, August 10, 2018, and Saturday, August 11, 2018, both at 7:30 p.m. The program also includes the composer's Requiem, K. 626, and Meistermusik.

City Center Announces Repertory for BALANCHINE

Arlene Shuler, New York City Center President and CEO, today announced programming for Balanchine: The City Center Years, the centerpiece of the 75th Anniversary Season. Beginning on October 31 (through Nov 4), an international roster of eight prestigious companies-American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, The Mariinsky Ballet, Miami City Ballet, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet-perform thirteen works over six programs.

Dance/NYC Announces Transition Of Executive Director Lane Harwell

Executive Director Lane Harwell will transition from Dance/NYC this summer to join the Ford Foundation as Program Officer, Creativity and Free Expression, where he will support the foundation's explorations of how the arts can contribute to fairer and more just societies.

Lincoln Center Announces Additional Performers for 2018 Out of Doors

Lincoln Center today announced additional artists to the Out of Doors 2018 lineup, with musicians covering genres like country, funk, rock, indie-folk and more. Held in Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park and BEYOND from July 24 - August 12, Out of Doors is one of the country's longest-running summer outdoor festivals, offering free music, dance, spoken word and family events to all.
