AJ Shively, Noah Galvin and More Join Cutting-Edge Composers at NYMF, 7/23

After sold-out shows at the Canal Room and the Laurie Beechman, Cutting-Edge Composers brings its latest concert to NYMF on Monday, July 23rd at 7 and 9:30 pm at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 w. 46th Street). Up-and-coming musical theatre writers are teamed with Broadway's hottest performers at the concert directed and produced by Laura Pietropinto (Next to Normal), co-produced by Jillian Robbins, and musically directed by Virginia Hart Pike.

NaTasha Yvette Williams, Justin Patterson and More Set for THE SUGAR HILL SISTERS at NYMF, 7/20 & 22

The New York Musical Theatre Festival Developmental Reading Series presents The Sugar Hill Sisters, a new musical with book and lyrics by the Lambda and Stonewall Award-winning Bil Wright and music by Joseph-Vernon Banks (Girlfriends!). The reading will be directed by Jade King Carroll (Assoc. director of Broadway's current revival of A Streetcar Named Desire) with music direction by GLAAD Award nominee Dionne McClain-Freeney Kasey Ostopchuck (4000 Miles) will be stage managing.

Last night, July 9, Ben Vereen (Pippin, Fosse) hosted the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival opening night gala celebrating the season kick off. On hand to show support for the famed fest, which opened last night and runs through July 29, were Corbin Bleu ("High School Musical"), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Dreamgirls, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Leslie Krtizer (A Catered Affair), Matt Bogart (Jersey Boys), Jeremy Kushnier (Jesus Christ Superstar), Jack Noseworthy (Sweet Smell of Success), Tom Deckman (Spamalot), Anika Larsen (Xanadu), Melissa Van der Schyff (Bonnie and Clyde), and many more. THE NEW YORK MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL (NYMF) presents reading of KT Peterson and Cedric D. Lyles' 7:32, directed by Laura Braza (The Attic Theater Company). When the Pacific Express crashed through a poorly built railroad bridge, the questionable practices of the Robber Barons first gripped the public's imagination. A tale of America's original Big Business catastrophe - the Ashtabula Disaster - set to a gospel, folk and bluegrass score. Playing at The 45th Street Theater (upstairs, 354 West 45th Street, New York, NY 10036). Performances are tonight, July 10th, 2012 at 8:00 pm & 9:00 pm and Thursday, July 12th, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

Award-winner Trent Armand Kendall's PICTURE INCOMPLETE opens at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival tonight, July 10 at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street - between Eighth & Ninth Avenues) where it will play through Saturday, July 21.

THE LAST SMOKER IN AMERICA Begins Performances 7/11

The new Off-Broadway musical comedy The Last Smoker in America, with book and lyrics by Tony Award® Nominee Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Drama Desk Nominee Peter Melnick (Adrift in Macao), with direction by Tony Award® winning producer and director Andy Sandberg (Hair; Gore Vidal's The Best Man), choreography by Tony Award® nominee AC Ciulla (Footloose) and music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Fred Lassen (The Gershwin's Porgy & Bess), begins performances Wednesday, July 11, 2012 upstairs at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street). Opening Night is Thursday, August 2, 2012.

Natalie Toro, Andrew Call and More Set for ZAPATA! THE MUSICAL at NYMF

The New York Musical Theatre Festival, LC Productions and Julie Miller will present the world premiere of ZAPATA! The Musical, a revolutionary musical that tells the story of Emiliano Zapata, hero of the Mexican revolution, who appears in the 21st century to inspire a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Janet Billig Rich & Rebecca Roffman present a staged reading of the new musical IT'S ON!, the T.V. show theme song musical. Readings will take place on Tuesday July 10th and Wednesday July 11th at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center located at 480 West 42nd Street. The official opening is Tuesday, July 10th at 8:00 PM.

HE'S NOT HIMSELF Plays PTC Performance Space at NYMF, Now thru 7/15

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and Aron Lewis Productions present He's Not Himself a new musical comedy by Marc Silverberg. Michael Pantone directs a cast of five including Keith Panzarella, Marc Silverberg, Taylor Sorice, Dexter Thomas-Payne, and Carly Voight. Performances for He's Not Himself will be held at the PTC Performance Space, 555 West 42nd Street (bet. 10th & 11th Avenues) in NYC for six performances from tonight, July 9 through Monday, July 16, 2012.

Michael Bush Directs Matt Bogart & Jessica Burrows HIMSELF AND NORA at NYMF, Now thru 7/19

Today, July 9, at the New York Musical Theater Festival, director Michael Bush brings to life Jonathan Brielle's "Himself and Nora", a musical tale of one of the greatest romances of the 20th Century -Himself...the brilliant and hard drinking Irish novelist James Joyce, Nora...the passionate chambermaid Nora Barnacle who became his lover, his partner, and his muse for 29 years. In this bawdy and funny, uplifting, and melodic new musical, "Himself and Nora" sings the story of one of the great love affairs of the time. A love which resulted in their exile from their beloved Ireland, the condemnation of the Catholic church, and ultimately some of the greatest writing of the 20th century.

The new musical Foreverman, with book, music, and lyrics by Brett M. Boles, will be presented as an official selection of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's (NYMF's) 2012 Next Link Project, beginning performances Friday, July 20 and running through Sunday, July 28, at the PTC Performance Space, 555 West 42 Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues).

Andrew Kober Reprises Sold Out KOBERET Concert at NYMF, 7/16

Koberet is returning to New York this summer as part of the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. After storming downtown NYC venues Joe's Pub and (Le) Poisson Rouge, Andrew Kober moves back where he belongs - midtown Manhattan (just off Broadway) - with two performances at 7pm and 10:30pm on Monday, July 16 at the 45th Street Theatre.
