Oberon Theatre Ensemble - currently celebrating its 17th season - will present the New York premiere of Steven Fechter's play THE WOODSMAN, directed by Alexander Dinelaris, Jr. (who directed Oberon's critically acclaimed production of 'The Drawer Boy' last season) with performances beginning April 18 prior to an official press opening of April 21 at the June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street) in Manhattan.

Blake Hackler, assistant professor of theatre at SMU Meadows School of the Arts, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholars Grant to conduct teaching and research in Bulgaria. Hackler will be in residence at New Bulgarian University in the capital city of Sofia from January through June, 2015, where he will teach and direct theatre, focusing on physical acting techniques. He will also observe and work with the Sfumato Theatre Laboratory, an internationally recognized theatre based in Sofia that produces highly physical interpretations of classic plays.
The Sheen Center - a brand new arts center located on the corner of Bleecker and Elizabeth Streets (18 Bleecker Street) in Manhattan, consisting of two state-of-the-art theater spaces (the 250-seat Loretto Auditorium and the 93-seat Black Box), four studios and an art gallery - is currently completing construction and scheduled for a soft opening on May 1, 2014 and a full opening season beginning September 2014, it has been announced by The Sheen Center's Artistic Director Jessica Bashline and Executive Director Monsignor Michael F. The American Theatre Wing announced today that the recipients of the 2014 Jonathan Larson Grants are writing team Sara Cooper (lyricist/bookwriter) & Zach Redler (composer), receiving $12,500 and the Running Deer Residency; and Shaina Taub (composer/lyricist), receiving $12,500. The prestigious grants, totaling $15,000 more than last year's grants, will be presented on Monday, April 7, 2014 at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. The event will feature special performances of the recipients' work.
After the critical success of its most recent Off-Broadway production, the Lucille Lortel Award winning All the Rage by Martin Moran (produced with piece by piece productions and The Barrow Group), acclaimed company Rising Phoenix Repertory returns to its longtime downtown home with the world premiere of Barn by Charlotte Miller, directed by Michael Padden. The play will be staged for eleven performances only at the Seventh Street Small Stage, where the company has produced new plays site-specifically for eight years in addition to more than 25 fully produced new plays in its lauded Cino Nights series. The production will run from March 23 - April 10, 2014, and features Brian Miskell, Laura Ramadei, and Sanford Wilson.
