Theatrical Outfit begins its Season of Compassion with the dramatic comedy The Savannah Disputation, written by Georgia-born playwright Evan Smith and, he says, inspired by today's politics and his Savannah grandmother. The show will run August 21 - September 7, 2014. The show will feature Alex Bond, Lane Carlock, Shannon Eubanks and Mark Kincaid. This is the 38th season for Theatrical Outfit, the second-oldest professional theater company in Atlanta, and the home of stories that stir the soul.

Internationally produced playwright Deborah Brevoort premieres her new farce The Velvet Weapon at Trustus Theatre in The Vista. This script is the winner of the Trustus Playwrights' Festival, an annual competition that gives a full production to a new original work. The long-running Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q will celebrate its 11th anniversary in New York on Thursday, July 31 at 8 p.m. with a special interactive social media performance - THE INTERNET IS FOR Q! - at New World Stages (340 W. 50 St.), at which all audience members will be invited to post their experiences during the show on their mobile phones via Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Members of the creative team and former cast members are expected to attend - and tweet - the performance, as well, and the evening's events will include surprise twists live from the stage.

On March 31, 300 friends, artists and supporters gathered to celebrate and honor Soho Rep.'s Board Chair Jon Dembrow at their annual spring gala. Forty-five minutes into the evening, the beam supporting a second-story balcony at the event venue, Angel Orensanz Center, cracked. The building was deemed unsafe and all the guests were evacuated by the FDNY. The cancellation of the event and on-site auction left Soho Rep. with a projected end-of-the-fiscal-year deficit of $68,000.
