Violinist Martin Chalifour, the Principal Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will be the featured soloist at the professional debut of the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 8pm at the Ricardo Montalban Theater. Composer Gordon Getty's opera Usher House will receive its United States premiere as part of San Francisco Opera's double bill titled The Fall of the House of Usher in four performances, December 8 to 13, 2015. The Getty opera, a co-production with Welsh National Opera, will be paired with Robert Orledge's reconstruction of Debussy's uncompleted score, La Chute de la Maison Usher.

Things are sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious this weekend, as Mary Poppins - the practically perfect in every way nanny - flies over the housetops of London, lading in Woodbury at The Arts Center of Cannon County. Directed by Allison Hall, the award-winning musical runs for three weekends at ACCC, starring Alice Matlock Clements as Mary Poppins and Scott Willis as Bert, the nimble-footed chimney sweep.

Mad Cow Theatre is delighted to announce the cast and creative team for the poignant musical The Secret Garden, with book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, based on the 1911 classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Secret Garden will open Nov. 20, 2015 in the Harriett Theatre at Mad Cow Theatre in downtown Orlando.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in an all-Mozart program: his Divertimento in D major, K.136/125a; Horn Concerto No. 2, with Principal Horn Philip Myers; and Serenade for 13 Winds, Gran partita. The concerts take place tonight, November 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Friends in Theater Company and State of Play Productions announces additional casting for  The Secret Garden, a two-night only production to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York and Western New York. Performances will take place on Monday, January 11, 2016 AND Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 7:30pm at the Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street New York, NY 10014).

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 56th season with the Tony award-winning musical, The Secret Garden, directed and choreographed by Roger Welch in his Bay Area debut, with music direction by Kevin Roland. The Secret Garden plays from November 20 through December 20; performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.

The full cast is set for the first national tour of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, opening at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on December 10, 2015, and playing through January 17, 2016. (Previews on December 8 and 9.)

Over the past few decades, many have bemoaned the rash of movies adapted for the Broadway stage, claiming that the theatre had lost its sense of creativity and enginuity. Some of these movie adaptations have gone on to have successful, award-winning runs (THE PRODUCERS and THE 39 STEPS to name a few), while many, many others have, simply, not. However, long before the stage looked to the screen as a source for new works, the inspiration for many of the theatre's best shows came from the pages of some of the world's best books; like THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, or the longest running show in Broadway history, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
