The Cadre, an emerging theater company, today announced that Alex Lenderman, renowned Grandmaster chess player, will lead a fundraiser for Art of Attack, the company's upcoming original play about two Russian brothers' addiction to chess. The event will take place on Saturday, August 21st, from 2 PM - 6 PM, at Holley Plaza in Washington Square Park and will give attendees the opportunity to compete against Lenderman for $10 per game. Prizes include tickets to see Art of Attack as well as chess sets and free lessons courtesy of the New York Chess and Game Shop.

The Plum Theatre Company presents David Caudle's SOUTH BEACH RAPTURE as part of the 14th Annual New York International Fringe Festival with remaining performances set for Saturday, August 21 at 11:00pm; Sunday, August 22 at 4:15pm; Monday, August 23 at 3:45pm and Wednesday, August 25 at 7:45pm at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). Michelle Bossy, Associate Artistic Director of Primary Stages, is set to direct. Running time is approximately 90 minutes. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced the opening date today for the summer's biggest hit, Daniel Sullivan's critically acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. Al Pacino will reprise his celebrated performance as Shylock on Broadway for 78 performances only, beginning Tuesday, October 19 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44th Street) and running through Sunday, January 9. Opening Night will be Sunday, November 7 at 6:45 p.m.
