Disney to Dim Broadway Lights in Memory of Robert Sherman

The marquees of Disney's New Amsterdam Theatre, home of the musical Mary Poppins, along with the Minskoff and Nederlander Theatres, which house Disney Theatrical Productions' The Lion King and Newsies, will dim this evening at 7:01 in memory of legendary songwriter Robert Sherman, who died yesterday in London at 86.

Twyla Tharp's COME FLY AWAY Starring Frank Sinatra Vocals At The Arsht

Broadway's ANNIE Holds Open Call Auditions in Austin, 3/5

Telsey + Co., casting office for the new Broadway production of ANNIE, will hold an open call in Austin, TX. on Monday, March 5, for girls ages 6-12 to audition for the roles of Annie and the orphans. ANNIE, directed by Tony Award-winner James Lapine, will open in fall 2012 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced.

NEWSIES Records Cast Album 3/4-5

Newsies, the new American musical which will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) for a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed stint at Paper Mill Playhouse last fall, will be given an original Broadway cast recording. The musical's cast is recording the album from March 4th-5th and it is set to be released by Ghostlight Records in the spring.

Newsies will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre for a strictly limited 101 performance run this spring, following its critically-hailed run at Paper Mill Playhouse in fall 2011. The musical, featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), will play its first Broadway preview on March 15th prior to its March 29th opening night; the final performance is scheduled for June 10th.

NEWSIES Announces Ticket Lottery Policy!

Disney Theatrical Productions has just announced that a limited number of orchestra tickets to Newsies will be available via lottery at The Nederlander Theatre beginning March 15th. Beginning two and a half hours before every performance, patrons are invited to enter the lottery; winners will be drawn two hours before each performance. Winners may then purchase up to two $30.00 cash only tickets to that day's performance. Winners must be present with valid identification at the time of the drawing. The lottery will be offered before every performance other than the opening night performance on March 29th. Complete terms and conditions of the lottery can be found below.

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 3/1- GUYS AND DOLLS

Today in 2009, Guys and Dolls opened at the Nederlander Theatre, where it ran for 121 performances. Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure', two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably 'Pick the Winner'. Premiering on Broadway in 1950, the original production ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions.

BroadwayWorld.com and other select members of the press were invited last night to a cocktail reception and a performance of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, which tells the story of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins' historic 1956 recording session. The show is now playing open-ended run at its new Off-Broadway home, the New World Stages.

TV EXCLUSIVE: Broadway Belts and Raises $50,000 for PFF! Joel Grey, Adam Pascal, Julie Halston & More!

With honors ranging from the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame to the Tony Awards, Broadway's best performers gathered last night, February 27, to raise awareness of the rare disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and honor the memory of Associated Press theater critic, Michael Kuchwara (today would have been Kuchwara's 65th Birthday). Hosted by award-winning actress and devoted Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) advocate Julie Halston, Broadway Belts for PFF! returned to Birdland in New York City for a second successful year. The event raised almost $50,000 to benefit the Foundation.
