Woodie King, Jr. and New Federal Theatre to be Honored with 2013 Edwin Booth Award, 5/6

This year's Edwin Booth Award will be presented to the legendary theatre director and producer Woodie King, Jr., founding director of the pioneering African-American theatrical production and training institution New Federal Theatre. The New Federal Theater integrates minorities and women into the mainstream of the profession through artistic training and play production. Mr. King will be present to receive the award. The event takes place May 6th at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center (MESTC) of The Graduate Center of City University of NY.

The Castillo Theatre Presents DR. DUBOIS AND MISS OVINGTON, 2/22-2/24

The National Black Touring Circuit's 2013 Black History Month Play Festival presents Dr. DuBois and Miss Ovington, a drama about the early years of the NAACP written by Clare Coss and co-starring Peter Jay Fernandez as W.E.B. DuBois and Kathleen Chalfant as Mary White Ovington from February 22 - 24 at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42rd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenue).

NYC Black History Month Play Festival 2013 Features Discussion by Poet and Author Amiri Baraka

The National Black Touring Circuit kicked off the Black History Month Play Festival 2013 with a special press reception in Harlem on Saturday, February 2 that featured a discussion by acclaimed poet and author Amiri Baraka on "The Meaning of Black History" and a performance by Timothy Simonson portraying Harlem legend Adam Clayton Powell from the play Adam.

National Black Touring Circuit Presents The Black History Month Play Festival, 2/8-24

The National Black Touring Circuit's Black History Month Play Festival 2013 will examine American history from anti-slavery Abolitionists to the emergence of the NAACP to the height of the civil rights movement through dramas on the lives of African American historic figures Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois and Adam Clayton Powell. Performances are in New York City theaters from February 8 - 24.

BLACKEN THE BUBBLE Makes World Premiere at HSA Theater Tonight, 10/13

Producing theater companies Liberation Theatre Company, Woodie King Jr.'s National Black Touring Circuit, and SOUL PROductions have teamed up to present Eric Lockley's hilarious affirmative action comedy, Blacken The Bubble at The HSA Theater (645 Saint Nicholas Avenue). Blacken The Bubble will officially open tonight, October 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

Producing theater companies Liberation Theatre Company, Woodie King Jr.'s National Black Touring Circuit, and SOUL PROductions have teamed up to present Eric Lockley's hilarious affirmative action comedy, Blacken The Bubble at The HSA Theater (645 Saint Nicholas Avenue). Blacken The Bubble will begin preview performances October 11, 2012 and will officially open October 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

National Black Touring Circuit, Woodie King Jr., Producer/Director, in association with the Castillo Theatre (Dan Friedman, artistic director, Diane Stiles, managing director) will be presenting Shirley Chisholm: Catalyst for Change by Ajene Washington, directed by Imani on February 18, 19, & 20th , 2011.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Producing Artistic Director; Rosetta LeNoire, Founder), celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a Gala evening on Monday, March 30th featuring a special 'Blast from the Past' concert of songs and numbers from four decades of Amas Musicals, including Bubbling Brown Sugar, It's So Nice to Be Civilized, Zanna Don't!, SHOUT! The Mod Musical, Four Guys Named Jose, Stormy Weather, Langston Hughes's Little Ham, From My Hometown, Lone Star Love, and Wanda's World, among others.

Amas Celebrates 40th Anniversary W/ Benefit Gala 3/30

New York: Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Producing Artistic Director; Rosetta LeNoire, Founder), will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a Benefit Gala on Monday, March 30th, 2009. The evening will feature a special 'Blast from the Past' concert of songs and numbers from four decades of Amas Musicals, including Bubbling Brown Sugar, Zanna Don't!, Barrio Babies, Bobos, SHOUT! The Mod Musical, Four Guys Named Jose, Latin Heat, Starmites, Langston Hughes's Little Ham, From My Hometown, Lone Star Love, and Wanda's World. The director and choreographer for the evening is Amas Artist-in-Residence Maria Torres, with musical direction by Doug Oberhamer. The event will take place at the Lighthouse International, 111 East 59th Street, at 7pm.
