BET Network Renews BOOMERANG and AMERICAN SOUL

Today BET Networks announced second season pick-ups for both its half-hour subversive, smart, serialized comedy series 'BOOMERANG,' and the critically-acclaimed period drama based on the untold rise of the iconic music and dance program 'Soul Train,' 'AMERICAN SOUL.' BET is investing in partnerships with leading Black content creators with unique creative voices to bring viewers elevated storytelling and premium programming.

Showtime Acquires the Rights to QUIET STORM: THE RON ARTEST STORY

SHOWTIME announced today the acquisition of rights to the award-winning documentary QUIET STORM: THE RON ARTEST STORY based on the turbulent life of one of the NBA's most controversial figures. Directed by Johnny Sweet (VICK) and written by journalist Tom Friend, QUIET STORM: THE RON ARTEST STORY is produced by Bleacher Report and will premiere on SHOWTIME during Mental Health Awareness Month on Friday, May 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Ashley Walters (Bulletproof, Sugarhouse) and Kane Robinson reprise their roles as 'Dushane' and 'Sully', joined by newcomer Michael Ward as 'Jamie' (The A List, Blue Story). The series features musical artists Simbi Ajikawo 'Little Simz', David Omoregie 'Dave'. Shone Romulus (Out) returns as 'Dris' and Ashley Thomas (24: Legacy, The Night Of, Black Mirror) returns as 'Jermaine'. New cast members include Lisa Dwan (Trust), Jasmine Jobson (Lie Low, Obey), Kadeem Ramsay (Sex Education, Blue Story), Saffron Hocking (London Kills, White Gold), Kola Bokinni (Hunter, Killer, Black Mirror) and Hope Ikpoku.

Showtime Gives Series Commitment to Spy Thriller INTELLIGENCE

SHOWTIME has given a series commitment and opened a writers room for the new spy thriller INTELLIGENCE, a real-world scripted drama series from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty). Boal will write, direct and executive produce, marking the filmmaker's first foray into television. The series, based on real stories from around the world, will explore the secret inner workings of power – how espionage intersects with politics, finance, media and Silicon Valley. The first season will dramatize the behind-the-scenes history leading up to the 2016 U.S. election, with each subsequent season looking at a major world event through the lens of covert operations.

Smithsonian Channel to Air New Documentary BLACK HOLE HUNTERS

Smithsonian Channel is putting viewers in the passenger seat of the journey towards a cutting-edge outer space discovery. On the heels of a groundbreaking scientific announcement to be made on April 10, the network will air a new one-hour documentary following a team of international scientists as they attempt to document the first-ever image of a black hole. BLACK HOLE HUNTERS premieres Friday, April 12 at 9 PM ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.

History Announces Two New Docudramas WASHINGTON and THE FOOD THAT BUILT AMERICA

HISTORY adds two new six-hour documentaries 'Washington' and 'The Food That Built America,' to its premium docudrama programming slate. Executive produced by world-renowned presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize(R)-winning, New York Times #1 bestselling author Doris Kearns Goodwin, 'Washington' (working title) will chip away the cold, bronzed and marbled image of America's first President and bring to life the man whose name is known to all, but whose true story is understood by few. 'The Food That Built America' (working title) will tell the unknown stories of innovation and rivalries behind food industry tycoons Milton Hershey, John and Will Kellogg, Henry Heinz, C.W. History Announces Return of Live Television Event EVEL LIVE 2

HISTORY announces the return of the unprecedented live television event 'Evel Live 2' premiering Sunday, July 7 at 8PM ET. As part of the network's third annual Car Week, the live broadcast produced in partnership with Nitro Circus will follow athletes, including champion freestyle motocross athlete Axell Hodges and female freestyle motocross athlete Vicki Golden, as they set out to break world records with three jaw-dropping motorcycle stunts. Professional motorsports icon, Travis Pastrana, will return to co-host the special.

Sylvester Stallone to Direct, Executive Produce THE TENDERLOIN at History

HISTORY is teaming with Sylvester Stallone to develop the drama series 'The Tenderloin' (working title) from A+E Studios in association with Balboa Productions, it was announced today at A+E Networks' Upfront. Stallone will executive produce and direct multiple episodes. Stephen Kay ('Sons of Anarchy,' 'The Shield') is set to write the pilot.
