Museum Of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara Announces New Director

Today, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) announces the appointment of Abaseh Mirvali as their new Executive Director, Chief Curator, and CEO, effective immediately. Bringing more than 15 years of national and international experience as a director, independent curator and project producer to the role, Mirvali joins MCASB at a crucial time and will spearhead the launch of Museum's transformative move to a dynamic new location in Santa Barbara's ocean-facing Funk Zone arts district.

Scottsdale Arts Offers Discounts For Veterans

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts are celebrating veterans this November. These promotions are a part of the Scottsdale Arts veteran and active military outreach program that visitors can take advantage of throughout the month.

Chicago Magic Lounge Celebrates Women In Magic

Chicago Magic Lounge, Chicago's new home for close-up magic, is proud to present Spotlight: Women in Magic, featuring some of the world's best professional magicians - who all happen to be women. Hosted by The Incredible Jan Rose, Spotlight: Women in Magic will feature magic by Lucy Darling (aka Carisa Hendrix) and close-up magician extraordinaire, Alba, with headliner (and first-time guest) Jade, the first woman to win the Gold Medal of Magic from the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Spotlight: Women in Magic will be presented as part of Chicago Magic Lounge's The Signature Show, for five performances, November 29 - December 1, 2018.

International Contemporary Ensemble Performs Anna Thorvaldsdottir In New Release, AEQUA, On Sono Luminus

On Friday, November 16, 2018, Sono Luminus Records releases AEQUA, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE)'s highly anticipated second portrait album of the music of composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. AEQUA features a varied constellation of recent chamber pieces including large ensemble works Aequilibria (2014) and Illumine (2016) led by conductor and longtime ICE collaborator Steven Schick; small chamber works Spectra (2017), Sequences (2016), Reflections (2016), and Fields (2016); and Scape (2011) for solo piano performed by champion of Anna's music, Cory Smythe. Physical package includes both CD and Pure Audio Blu- ray with 9.1 Auro-3D, Dolby Atmos 5.1.4, and 5.1 Surround Sound versions, as well as the mShuttle application containing FLAC, WAV, and MP3 audio files.

MAD Ball To Feature Presentation Of Visionaries! Awards And Announcement Of Inaugural Burke Prize Winner

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Cipriani 42nd Street, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will hold its annual gala to celebrate five outstanding individuals and organizations for their contributions to the fields of art, craft, and design. In addition, this year's MAD Ball will feature the announcement of the winner of the inaugural Burke Prize, an unrestricted $50,000 award given to a professional artist working in craft.

Pivot Arts Presents CHARGED SPACES/CHANGING BODIES

Pivot Arts presents Charged Spaces/Changing Bodies, a series of site-specific performances in two historic Uptown spaces in conjunction with Chicago Architecture Foundation's Open House Chicago weekend. San Diego Symphony Announces Annual January Festival

The San Diego Symphony's annual January Festival returns in its fourth year entitled, Hearing the Future. Throughout the festival, which runs January 9 - 27, 2019, the organization explores and celebrates the power of music and art to give voice to the evolution and revolutions in the world at large. The festival, curated by composer-conductor Matthew Aucoin (b.1990), will shine a spotlight on the music being made today - from composers and performers who are still in high school, to a 90-year-old jazz master. The festival will also explore the way music from the past - from Haydn, Beethoven and Berlioz to the creators of African-American spirituals - engaged with the most urgent issues of their time.

Christ Church Celebrates New Organ With IN PLAIN AIR

The Neighborhood House program of Christ Church Preservation Trust, a catalyst for the arts at historic Christ Church, presents five free world premiere performances of In Plain Air, a work in multiple movements by composers Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen that marks the culmination of the International Contemporary Ensemble's year-long residency in celebration of Christ Church's new C.B. Fisk pipe organ, Opus 150. Performances will take place at Christ Church today, September 22 at 1pm, 3:30pm, and 6pm and on Sunday, September 23 at 3:30pm and 6pm. Movements employing Christ Church's historic bells, custom instruments, and itinerant musicians will convey audiences across the entire Christ Church campus before introducing them to Opus 150. Presented in partnership with FringeArts, all performances of In Plain Air will be free. Major support for In Plain Air has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

Scottsdale Public Art Offers Sneak Peek Canal Convergence Launch Party, 11/8

This year, Scottsdale Public Art is giving art lovers a behind-the-scenes look at Canal Convergence, a free 10-day event from Nov. 9-18 featuring large-scale public art installations, artist talks and hands-on workshops. The Canal Convergence Launch Party marks the kick-off of this annual celebration of public art and features exclusive experiences for attendees.
