Scottsdale Center Announces Holiday Programming

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts offers a wide variety of holiday shows in December something to suit everyone's taste ranging from the tart-tongued Sister in Sister's Christmas Catechism to masterful mariachis performing in A Merry-Achi Christmas to a singalong to the film Grease. Here's what's coming up:

Los Angeles Master Chorale Names Elizabeth Greenway Chief Advancement Officer

The Los Angeles Master Chorale has appointed Elizabeth Greenway to the position of Chief Advancement Officer. Greenway will lead the advancement and development initiatives of the Master Chorale, a resident company of The Music Center and the choir-in-residence at Walt Disney Concert Hall led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon and President & CEO Jean Davidson. Greenway will assume her new position on Tuesday, November 28.

Sahra Motalebi to Return to The Kitchen with DIRECTORY OF PORTRAYALS

Musician, visual artist, and performer Sahra Motalebi returns to The Kitchen - following her 2015 performance Sounds From Untitled Skies-with Directory of Portrayals (from Rendering What Remains), an open-form opera based on an ongoing online exchange between the artist and her sister.

State Of The Arts NYC presents Talk On The Sexual Harassment Crisis In The Art World

Sexual harassment allegations have now hit the visual art world. Art Forum co-publisher Knight Landesman has resigned amid several allegations. More women have come forward. An open letter, begun by 10 members of a Whats App group, grew to 125 people within 24 hours, has been signed by luminaries including Cindy Sherman, Laurie Anderson, Lynn Nottage, Phyllida Barlow, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Tania Bruguera, and Jenny Holzer, whose work Abuse of Power Comes as No Surprise is on the landing page for the letter. Now, over 5,000 women have signed the letter to stop these practices.

Hiroshi Sugimoto's RIKYU-ENOURA: A NEW NOH PLAY Premieres Tonight at Japan Society

Japan Society presents the world premiere of Rikyu-Enoura: A New Noh Play by Hiroshi Sugimoto. Commissioned by Japan Society and Odawara Art Foundation for the Society's 110th Anniversary, this noh play, which is newly written but adheres to noh's medieval language, is performed in traditional style with noh masks, costumes, musical instruments and chanters.

U.S. Women's Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe to Speak at SMoCA

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) presents a moderated conversation with FIFA Women's World Cup Champion and Olympic gold medalist Megan Rapinoe today, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., in the Virginia G. Piper Theater at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts.

Astrid Kuljanic to Celebrate RIVA Album Release At Carnegie Hall

Croatian vocalist and composer, Astrid Kuljanic, will bring her complex musical sensibility to the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on October 24th with an eclectic program of jazz-infused traditional folk music from a wide variety of traditions, including Klezmer and Balkan standards.

Yale Rep to Present Nambi E. Kelley's Stage Adaptation of NATIVE SON

Yale Repertory Theatre presents NATIVE SON, the critically acclaimed new play by Nambi E. Kelley adapted from the iconic American novel by Richard Wright, directed by Seret Scott, November 24 December 16 at Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street). Opening Night is Thursday, November 30.

MOCA Brings Virtual Reality to Miami

In celebration of Art Basel Miami Beach 2017, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami will showcase How to Unlock a Portal by Swedish artist Jacob Fell nder. Fell nder is internationally recognized for his collections of large scale manipulated photographs of cityscapes. This will be his first solo exhibition and debut in the U.S. The exhibition will run from December 7, 2017 February 11, 2018. Art Basel Miami Beach will take place from December. 7 10, 2017.

Scott Wollschleger's Complete Piano Works to be Performed by Karl Larson at Spectrum, 11/20

On Monday, November 20, 2017 at 8:30pm at Spectrum in Brooklyn (70 Flushing Ave, Garage A), pianist Karl Larson performs Part I of the complete piano works of Scott Wollschleger, a composer whose distinct musical language has been described as evocative and kaleidoscopic by The New York Times. Part II takes place on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 8:30pm at Spectrum.

Time to Give Thanks for THE CAPITOL STEPS

Returning for their annual Thanksgiving weekend pilgrimage to Scottsdale, The Capitol Steps plan to bring down the House and Senate with their blend of sharp political satire set to popular music. The irreverent D.C.-based troupe will take the stage at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 and 25.
