Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) begins 2009 with the New York premiere of THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION, a new play by Evan Smith (Psych and The Uneasy Chair at Playwrights Horizons, Remedial English for the Young Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Horizons, Servicemen at The New Group). This will be Mr. Smith's fourth collaboration with the theater company.

Philip J. Smith and Robert E. Wankel Named New Heads of Shubert Organization

The New York Times is reporting that Philip J. Smith was named today the chairman of both the Shubert Organization and Foundation , a position many consider to the most powerful of all in the theatrical world. Mr. Smith, 77, the organization's president for the past dozen years, is taking over the same job that his longtime friend and mentor. The paper also reports that Robert E. Wankel, was named co-chief executive officer along with Mr. Smith and president. Mr. Wankel, who will turn 62 on Friday, was also elected to the board of directors.

Arena Stage welcomes Josh Kornbluth, writer/performer of Red Diaper Baby and Love & Taxes, in his hilarious and provocative one-man show Citizen Josh. A Jonathan Reinis Production, Citizen Josh is written and performed by Kornbluth in collaboration with Arena's Associate Artistic Director David Dower.

Pasadena Playhouse to Present Kennedy in 'Lady With All The Answers'

Pasadena Playhouse will present Mimi Kennedy as Ann Landers in the the premiere of The Lady With All The Answers by David Rambo. Drawn from the life and letters of Ann Landers with the cooperation of Margo Howard the play will be directed by Brendon Fox and run from October 17 - November 23. New Musical 'Caprice' Premieres at Winds Theatre Company

'Caprice' previews at Wings Theatre Company (154 Christopher Street, basement of the Archive Building) from Thursday, September 11th to Monday, September 15th. Opening Night on Wednesday, September 17th at 8PM is a special press night with a 'Meet the Cast' reception free to subscribers following the show. Regular performances including previews are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8PM, Sundays at 3:30PM and Mondays at 8PM through October 5th. Tickets are $20/ $16 for seniors and students. Directed by Tony Award nominee Wilson Milam (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), the production will begin previews on Friday, August 22, 2008 with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, September 16. The limited engagement will run through Sunday, September 28 at Playwrights Horizons Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).
