Fifty years ago this month, a team of expert climbers became the first Americans to summit Mt. Everest, the world's tallest mountain, in an expedition sponsored in part by the National Geographic Society. Two years after this historic climb, National Geographic released its first-ever television special, Americans on Everest, which followed this group of brave climbers from base camp to the top of the world. To mark the anniversary this month, the National Geographic Channel will air this classic special, narrated by the legendary Orson Welles, on Friday, May 24, at 8 p.m. ET/PT during the weekly Night of Exploration programming block.

EXPO 1: New York, an exploration of ecological challenges in the context of the economic and socio-political instability of the early 21st century opens at MoMA PS1, The Museum of Modern Art, and Rockaway Beach. Acting in the guise of a festival-as-institution, EXPO 1: New York imagines a contemporary art museum dedicated to ecological concerns, presenting a simultaneity of modules, interventions, solo projects, and group exhibitions including a school, a colony, a cinema, a geodesic dome, Rain Room, and more. EXPO 1: New York is made possible by a partnership with Volkswagen Group of America. Rain Room is on view at MoMA, courtesy of RH, Restoration Hardware.
Kimmel Center Greenlights Partnership with Greater Philly Film Office for Perelman Theater

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces a strategic partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO), best known for attracting film, TV and new media production to the region, to provide marketing and outreach support for the newly installed, state-of-the-art digital equipment in the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater. The partnership with GPFO expands the Kimmel Center's role in the community as a purveyor of films. Now, the Home of the Performing Arts in Philadelphia will also be the Home for Moving Pictures in Philadelphia.

This July and August, Artists' Exchange will showcase 21 dishes across 6 weeks, some sweet, some mild, some sour and some bitter, something for every palate and for every appetite.
