Fifty years ago this month, a team of expert climbers became the first Americans to summit Mt. Everest, the world's tallest mountain, in an expedition sponsored in part by the National Geographic Society. Two years after this historic climb, National Geographic released its first-ever television special, Americans on Everest, which followed this group of brave climbers from base camp to the top of the world. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces a strategic partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO), best known for attracting film, TV and new media production to the region, to provide marketing and outreach support for the newly installed, state-of-the-art digital equipment in the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater. The partnership with GPFO expands the Kimmel Center's role in the community as a purveyor of films. Now, the Home of the Performing Arts in Philadelphia will also be the Home for Moving Pictures in Philadelphia.
