BWW Reviews: DUDDY KRAVITZ Comes Home to Montreal

Closing off the Segal Centre's 2014-2015 season, this classic story follows young Duddy Kravitz (Ken James Stewart), a kid who's grown up in the ethnic ghetto of the post-war St. Urbain Street in Montreal. Duddy is eager to escape his dead-end neighborhood and be somebody. After being told by his elderly, Jewish grandfather (Howard Jerome) that "a man without land is nobody," Duddy employs his boyish charms and underhanded nature as he sets his sights on acquiring the land around a lake in the Laurentians.

THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ: THE MUSICAL Extends at the Segal Centre

The Segal Centre is proud to announce that its world premiere production of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz: The Musical, set to open today, June 11, will receive a one week extension to meet audience demand. Based on the classic Montreal coming of age novel by Mordecai Richler, with book and lyrics by David Spencer, music by Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, and directed by Austin Pendleton, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz: The Musical was officially scheduled to close on Sunday, June 28. It will now run an additional week through Sunday, July 5th. Tickets for these added performances are now on sale.

Musical Adaptation of 'DUDDY KRAVITZ' Begins Next Month at Segal Centre

The Segal Centre will close its blockbuster 2014-2015 Theatre Season with The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz: The Musical, a world premiere musical adaptation of Mordecai Richler's novel and the feature film by the same name, from June 7-28, 2015. This new production boasts an original musical score by Alan Menken, the legendary Oscar and Tony winning composer of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, with book and lyrics by acclaimed lyricist-librettist David Spencer and direction by American theatre veteran Austin Pendleton. Presented with the generous support of RBC and Muse Entertainment.

Angel Light Pictures to Produce Documentary THE APPRENTICESHIP OF TED KOTCHEFF

Angel Light Pictures announced today that they will produce THE APPRENTICESHIP OF TED KOTCHEFF, a documentary about the life of Ted Kotcheff (William T. Kotcheff). The film will track the cinematic journey of the legendary Canadian film and television director, by Antonio Saillant in his debut as a director (Heterosexual, The Ascension).

Andrea Martin to Hold Dramatic Reading for TD Canadian Children's Book Week, 11/22

On Sunday, November 22nd, Tony Award winner and Broadway star Andrea Martin will be live in the National Arts Centre Theatre in Ottawa to read aloud Mordecai Richler's classic children's story, 'Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang' for one special afternoon. The reading, abridged by David S. Craig and presented in association with TD Canadian Children's Book Week, is part of the NAC English Theatre's Family 3 series. An exciting event for families, as parents will take pleasure as they watch their children enthralled with Ms. Martin exciting reading as young Jacob is brought to life.

Colony Theatre Co Presents 2 PIANOS 4 HANDS, Previews 6/17-19, Opens 6/20

The Colony Theatre Company presents the first production of its historic 35th anniversary season, the musical sensation, 2 PIANOS 4 HANDS, written by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt and directed by Tom Frey. 2 PIANOS 4 HANDS will preview on Wednesday, June 17; Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, June 20 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, July 26 at The Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) adjacent to the Burbank Town Center.
