During the closing Wreath-laying Ceremony at the African Burial Ground in lower Manhattan yesterday, The Honorable Edna Wells Handy, Commissioner of Citywide Administrative Services, on behalf of Mayor Mike Bloomberg and the residents of New York City, paid hommage to free and slave Africans.

Penobscot Theatre Company has announced the cast and design team for its holiday production of ANNIE (December 5 - December 29th). Tickets will go on sale to the public, Monday, October 1st at noon.

In 2010, Shane had his first TV special Comedy Central Presents: Shane Mauss and released his first CD Jokes To Make My Parents Proud with Comedy Central Records, which was named in the Top 10 Albums of 2010 by Punchline Magazine. Originally from La Crosse, WI, Shane Mauss moved to Boston in 2004 (at the supple, tender age of 23) to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a standup comedian. In less than three years, Shane caught his big break when he was awarded Best Standup Comic at HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival in 2007. Shane's TV credits include three appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, Showtime's Comics Without Borders, Two appearances on BBC's The World Stands Up, and in what is easily his strangest television appearance to date: Playboy TV's Night Calls. Shane has been in several comedy festivals around the world including The Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, The Comedy Central South Beach Comedy Festival, The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland, The Sydney Comedy Festival, and The Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival.

CAROLS FOR A CURE is the annual two-disc holiday CD compilation of original songs and holiday classics which benefits BC/EFA. These CDs boast the best voices from the worlds of Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours. A full track list for this year's 14th edition has not yet been announced, but the cast of Broadway's THE LION KING was already hard a work recording their track for the album. The Jeff Awards Committee announced 197 nominations in 34 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions, which opened between August 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. The Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 118 Equity productions offered by 55 producing organizations. From these openings, 96 productions were 'Jeff Recommended,' which made them eligible for award nominations.
