The year is 1940. The place is a small town in Indiana. Ralphie Parker is convinced that his life will not be complete unless he gets a Red Ryder Carbine Action BB gun for Christmas. His mother says absolutely not - "You'll shoot your eye out" - and so, with only 24 days 'till Christmas, Ralphie searches desperately for a way to change her mind.

A new musical version of the classic movie comes to the stage for the holiday season. The story  takes place in the 1940s in Indiana and focuses on a child named Ralphie, a daydreamer who spends his days counting down to Christmas. He wants a Red Ryder BB Gun, but as his parents and teachers warn him, "You'll shoot your eye out!"  All of the movie's best-loved moments are here, including the Old Man's leg-shaped lamp, the tongue-on-a-flagpole scene, the bunny suit, the Santa slide and all of Ralphie's extravagant daydreams. It's a big Broadway musical, complete with dazzling dance numbers and gorgeous sets.

The beloved holiday film is being brought to life live-on-stage as the award-winning Broadway show, A Christmas Story, The Musical, embarks on an eight-city National Tour this holiday season opening in Utica, NY, tonight, November 15, 2016, with engagements in Waterbury, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Baltimore, Buffalo, Detroit and Grand Rapids­.

Matawan resident Mikayla Petrilla will be playing a leading role in Phoenix Productions' upcoming November revival of A Christmas Story. This show will take place at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank for a two-weekend run beginning November 11th.

Sierra Repertory Theatre presents a stage adaptation of the nostalgic holiday film, 'A Christmas Story,' November 11 - December 18 at the East Sonora Theatre on Mono Way.

Citadel Theatre is presenting A Christmas Story: The Musical as the second installment of its 14th Season. Directed by Robert D Estrin this musical is based on the story by Jean Shepherd with book byJoseph Robinette, and words and music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The show runs November 18 - December 18, 2016 at Citadel's West Campus Theatre at 300 S Waukegan Road, Lake Forest. The Press Opening is Opening Night, Friday November 18, at 8pm.

Following its initial casting announcement in April, The Muny announced today additional principal cast members for its spectacular 98th season. Jean Shepherd historian Steven Glazer hosts a 30-minute talk prior to tonight's performance of A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL at Paper Mill Playhouse. Glazer's talk will reveal interesting facts about Ralphie, Randy, Schwartz, Flick, Miss Shields and even the Bumpus hounds.
