London's Royal Court Theatre dominated the nominations for the 2010 Evening Standard Awards, receiving 11 nominations, the most of any London theatre. The Royal Court further cemented its reputation as the writers' theatre, claiming every nomination in both the Best Play and Most Promising Playwright categories. The nominations were spread between six different Royal Court productions.
The Evening Standard Theatre Awards, established in 1955, are presented annually for outstanding achievements in London Theatre. Sponsored by the Evening Standard newspaper, the 2010 Awards will be presented at the Savory on November 28, 2010. The short list of the 2010 nominees will be released one week prior to the ceremony.
The cast has been announced for the Royal Court Theatre's first ever family Christmas show, Get Santa! which previews from 1 December.
The National Theatre has announced casting for its upcoming productions, starting with Moira Buffini's WELCOME TO THEBES which will run starting June 15. Nikki Amuka-Bird and David Harewood will star in the World Premiere of the play, which tells the Greek myth of the first democratically elected president of Thebes in a modernized way. The winners in the ninth annual Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards, the only major UK theatre prize-giving decided by the public, were announced today (Sunday 15 February) at a glittering, star-studded evening at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
The 2009 season at the Almeida Theatre will include five premieres, two major revivals and a Shakespeare.
